psi

i was wondering if someone could tell me what is the recomended psi on 32s bfg mud terrain for highway driving. i got mine on today and the people at the tire shop put them at 35 and told my bro that this is the pressure they should have, i think that it is a little to much. i may be wrong though.

Seems a bit high. Recommended tire pressure is in your glove box door I believe.

Or put a chalk line across the tread of your tire and drive around. Let air out until the chalk line wears off evenly.

35 is what was recommended in my 33" BFGs for the wieght of the X.

Not that it matters a heck of a lot but I run my stock Grabbers (shudder) at 36psi.

ok cuz i knew it was going to be a rougher ride but damn it is rough, i do not know if that is normal. I had a land cruiser and then a jeep wrangler, and i have always had at least 31s, for instance in my landcruiser i had 33s and it was ever as rough as my x right now. it is not that i am complaining cuz it looks bad ass and i bet my life on de fact that it will off road best than ever but i was wondering if by lowering the psi it will get a little bit less rough without damaging the tire.

Cool Swampers

I know that when I am riding on my Swampers my street pressure is 22-25psi. Some may say that is low but it gives the best ride! When I firsted started driving with them they were set at 32psi!!! I could feel my filings come out at that pressure! The swampers have thicker sidewalls so I can get away with the lower pressures safely.

Do you have stock shocks? Most everyone benefits from Bilstein shocks on and off-road!

ok so you went from 32 to 22 that is with swampers which means that i can lower my pressure by at least 5 or 7 and still be ok right?. Man cuz honestly i am only 23 yrs old but riding my x right now makes me like like 50 . just joking but yes it is rough. thanks a lot anyways dud and yes i am still running stock shocks ill go check thes bilstein out. if you know who sells them let me know anyways i am going to start my search right now. thanks again

confusion

as i told in my first post english is not my first language that is why i am lost with that sway bar thing. What is it? What purpose does it has? cuz i am looking at http://www.spencerlowracing.com and they have rear shocks for xterra 4x4 with and w/out the freaking thing, ill probably can aford them but i have to put them in soon since i am going to drive about 3000 miles to FL pretty soon. Guys i am learning so i am sorry if i am bothering you all. :smoker2: thanks again. Pics wanted

Tire Math based on load capacity of the tire.

Take the loaded weight of the vehicle and divide by 4.
4900 lbs. / 4 = 1225 lbs.
Each tire is supporting about 1225 pounds, give or take a bit due to weight bias front to rear, and loaded accessories.

Check the rating on the tire.
My 32" BFG Mud Terrains are rated for 2530 pounds at 50 PSI.

Divide the weight on each tire by rated capacity.
1225 / 2530 = .484, or 48.4% of the rated maximum PSI.

Adjust the PSI to that percentage of the maximum PSI.

.484 * 50 PSI = 24.2 PSI.

Adjust up or down to taste.

I run 26 PSI in my tires, and they are wearing evenly across the tread, and offer a very smooth ride. At 35 PSI, the outside edges of the tire do not touch the ground, and a piece of paper can be slid under the tread. This means the contact patch (and traction) are reduced, and the center of the tire will wear prematurely.

All in all, the best technique is still the chalk trick.

If you have your torsion bars cranked up too high that might be what is contributing to your ride harshness.

I agree with Wqbang. I think you mentioned somewhere you had 32" tires. If you cranked your stock torsion bars to clear those you might have removed most of their dampening benefit.

I'm running nearly the same

as Ian. I'm at 28psi and have a full contact patch. The tire shop put them at 35 after balancing and the outside edges weren't touching.

I take them down to about 18psi for most of my off roading. This pressure really helps out on the traction side as well as softening up all the bumps on the trail. They will tolerate taking them down to a lot less, around 10psi, but I have no need for that low of pressure.

ok i know what was going on right now i was running those tires at 45 psi i went down to 35 and it feels a lot smother, i think ill go a little bit lower since you all are running high 20s on them. i will think that they will be good if a run them at 30. believe me it made a big diference from 45 to 35 psi, i do not know what the people at the tire shop were thinking. thanks a lot to everybody for the feedback and the info i really appreciate all your help.
