Question an early 2 psi...

I remember something about this in the SDU forum, but that being dead atm and all...

I have a series II GTS25t. I don't get full boost till around 5000rpm, when the ECU decides it will allow that extra 2psi boost. The big problem with that, is that by the time you reach that point in 3rd gear, Mr Plod is already very with you, and tends to do things to make you  So I really want that extra 2psi from earlier on. I'm sure I remember a discussion about how to do that - anyone remember/know? Someone talked about removing the factory boost solenoid, but without a boost controller, that sounds a bit unwise to me  Is there anything I can do? (before I get the $$ together for a boost controller)

More boost would make me this happy:

Check out the Autospeed website for a boost controller that lets you set the max boost, and the rate at which it appears. Its listed as an Audi style boost.

thanks - I had seen that before; I didn't look too closely at it, as I didn't have a turbo car at the time Would that stop the annoying 5psi till 5000rpm, then up to 7psi? Cos that's the main thing - rather than increasing boost at this point.

ah - looked further thru it now - you remove the factory solenoid, and this jobby does the work instead. Righto.

Er.. be careful of the autospeed boost controller. It has its drawbacks. I'm using one and it tends to spike a bit and boost tends to creep up a bit in the higher gears. If you think about the theory of wastegates, pressures and spring constants, you'll realise that using a regulator to control boost is wrong (I wasted my money buying them)

Er.. but Im farting around with a different setup which seems to wokr real well and is a lot cheaper.

Raf, er.. why not just put 12V on the factory solenoid? All it does is open at 5000rpm to give you the extra 2psi ( I think)

 Why and how would I apply that 12V? Would that just keep the solenoid open, as if the revs were > 5,000?
