Re: How you got ur car

Well odd story how i got my 2 300's and my 280. You see i was driving to pick up my buddy and saw a car lot i never saw before. It was all imports, and at the time had no actual intent in buying. But when thew dealer came out and i started pickin his brain he gave me an itch and a challenge. He told me hed sell all three for 1500. 2 Of them where turbo and the other just an na, all t tops, and 5 speed. I thought about it and went home and slept on it. At the time i hadnt looked at the integerity much i just knew they all ran (280 had a blown rod bearing but ran) and the one of the 300s need 2 new fenders. other than that it was imacculkate all 3. so i figured hell i got room in my yard and garage ill take them.
so needles to say i got 3 z's and blew 3 z's and almost have one glued back together (as in firing it up and spinning around tommorow) and love them all the more with ever y passing day

in the states the 3000GT VR4 only runs mid 13's at best...most owners seem to run higher in the 13's but still a quick car. the 300zxTT will usually match a VR4 in 1/4 mile performance but in general the 300zx is just a hair slower due to the 3000GT's better launch. after the 1/4 mile is up the 300zx has no problem catching up and overcoming the AWD VR4. so no, a VR4 in the US will not run a 12.8 1/4 mile. as far as i know the GTO MR runs 12.8 1/4 miles and it doesnt offer leather seats, 4 wheel steering, or any of the fancy extras that the VR4 does.

as for price, in general they seem to run about the same. in my area i can get VR4's for quite a bit cheaper than 300zx's but in general that run the same prices nation wide. on a good 300zxTT or 3000GT VR4, look to spend $12k-$20K.

also remember, mitsubishi doesnt have such a good name here in the US. between their reliabilty issues and tendency to screw over their customers when it comes to waranties. they arent on everyone in the US's wish list. this makes value suffer when a company has such a bad record. just a thought...
Hrmmmm.... Interersting. For 'normal cars' ie non sports cars, Mitsubishi and Nissan have about the same reputation. With mitsubishi having possibly a slightly better reputation due to them now offering a 10 year warrenty on engine and driveline on all new cars.

When it comes to sports cars however, locally, Mitsubishi dealers DONT sell any. Literally. Not since they stopped selling the GTO in1996. We cant buy the EVO from dealers. There is no Eclipse. The FTO was never sold here. There is NO performance cars on offer from Mitsubishi locally.

Nissan sold the 200sx and now the 350z and they used to sell the 300zx until 1996 as well i believe. But being in Australia means that lots of cars have been imported in over the years. About 60% of the total amount being nissan performance cars. So there are plenty in abundance.

I guess you would be paying for the exclusivity of the GTO over anything. There are plenty of every single other Japanese performance cars around apart from the GTO.

I was referring to the MR spec GTO. The standard GTO will run a low 13 sec 1/4 which while its good, 12.8 is better. I love my creature comforts in my cars but i will still probably end up getting the MR over the standard GTO. This is because of our wonderful import laws. I can only import a GTO if it has been built after 1996(when they stopped being sold locally).

The differences between the GTO and the MR are
1: No active aero.
2: No ECS (electronically Controled Suspension).
3: No leather seats.
4: ABS was an option.
5: Fog lights were an option.
6: No cruise control
7: No AWS

Ok lets look at that list.
1: Active Aero was discontinued in 1996 so i wouldnt get it anyway if i bought a standard GTO.
2: The fact that i cant change to a softer setting doesnt bother me in the slightest. I like being able to feel the road as i drive. One less expensive thing that can break on me.
3: I dont particular like leather anyway. I can always getthe seats retrimmed anyhow. No big deal.
4: Apparently the ABS on the GTO wasnt that good anyway. And you can break better without ABS regardless.
5: Im sure ill get over it.
6: While im sure AWS is great, power steering will do me just fine.

To top it all off, the MR is cheaper than a standard GTO
