Re: How you got ur car

I saved up since I was a kid for a 300ZedX... Ended up putting more than it was worth into it, but Oh well. It was a good experience.

Re: How you got ur car

I was searching on auto trader originally for a 3kGT around 3-4 grand, but than I membered that the 80's models were decently priced and turbod, and that I loved the look of em' so I did a search for it, and mine turned up. I went to go test drive the car, and the rest is history.

Re: How you got ur car

searched on autotrader for ages and ages, until i finally gave up and went to an auto auction and picked up a n/a 86... fiddled with that for a while then started a looong search for another one.. damn near bought a TT z32 a on a few occasions but it never seemed to work out.. i finally came across a z31 turbo for 3400 at a dealership around a 3 hour drive away and i thought it was a done deal.. so i bust it out there and take a look at the car... absolutely one of the worst z31's i've ever seen... rusted thru in multiple places engine problems and just plain not taken care of... so i turf that idea and go home rejected.. a while later.. (can't remember how much longer...) i see another turbo z31 on autotrader and of course follow it up.. and ended up getting my 88 5 spd turbo, and i've had her to this day...

Over the last few years I had been very casually shopping for a car to replace my boring 4 banger. Considering everything from a new G35 coupe or C5 vette to an old jeep or pickup, each having their own pros and cons. I had always loved Z's though, and occasionally included them in my browsing. I saw an ad on autotrader for a great looking low mileage '91 for a pretty good price, and decided to go take a look. This was only the second car I had actually looked at through all those years of browsing, that's how not-serious I was. I liked the car, but decided to sleep on it. After a night of complete indecision, I woke up the next morning and my first thought was to go directly back and buy the car. So I did...

Several weeks and even a couple large shop bills later, I'm still happy as hell that I did it.

Re: How you got ur car

funny i find this thread

the other day i was lokking through some crap and found the newpaper i bought my car from.

on the paper was circled a 92 3000gt vr4 a 94 3000gtvr4

and 3 300zxtt. only thing stopping me from getting the Z was the fact that the vr4 was for $7200 and the Z was 9 grand. if i would have found a Z cheaper than a vr4 i would have gotten a Z. if they were the same price then of course it would be the vr4. but Z's are my next fav

back to topic. my eagle talon was totalled and i was given so much money, and decided to go ahead and get the car i've wanted my whole life. so i got it.

I am not going to answer that...

do some searching and some reading and make your own opinion as our opinions will obviously be biased and absolutely correct.

youngvr4: nice story! i was actually looking at 3000GT's around the same time i was looking for 300ZX's. the 300zx didnt have me completely sold yet but i knew it was between these 2 cars. one of the biggest things that steered me away from the 3000GT is the fact that the N/A is FWD and they are really popular in my area. i couldnt afford the VR4 or TT at that time and anything was a big step from what i was driving. so like i said...i wanted a more rare car and i wanted it to be RWD and no offense, i just think the Z has more aggressive lines and stance but the 3000GT's still look damn good. so i ended up with my Z and i have been fairly happy but hopefully i will be really happy once i get it back running again...

Well i might as well state my story again.

I was originally looking for an MR2 turbo to import directly from Japan. That was proving to be a pain in the ass so when a Black GT4 Celica popped up for less than half of what they sell over here locally i jumped at the chance. Becasue i had gotten my car a LOT cheaper than expected I still had a decent wad of cash left over and i was wondering what to do with it. Invest in shares? Too risky for my taste. Long term deposite? Doesnt make enough money for my taste. So i again turned to look at the importing website and the incredibly cheap cars on offer. I did the maths and it turned out i was most likely to get the biggest profit margin on importing a 300zx and selling it again. It came in, in February and somehow i just havent found the time to go out and sell it yet so im stuck with the 'unfortunate predicament' of having to cruize around in a Z for a bit longer....

Re: How you got ur car

when i found my Z it was all luck, i was driving a dodge stealth and was dying to mod'd it but i couldnt come up w/ anything good that was worth the money. so i sold it and started lookin around, with owning the stealth i really liked them and the 3kgt so i looked for a TT, while i was looking i found a 300zx TT and remembered about the first car i ever saw that i wanted which was a 1970 240z and then i fell in love w/ the 300 just as i had with the 240 several years earlier, my friend owned a TT and basicly had no idea what he had bought (esp. after he threw the rear end into a gaurd rail) at which time i swiped it off him for 6k and he still complains about how he should have never sold it......my friends still bug me about the 3kgt i almost bought, i always get " but dude it was awd!" but in the end isnt rwd always more fun?

Re: How you got ur car

They're both fun and they both have their ups and downs, but I've always wanted to test drive a TT... or mod my z31 to beat a TT heh heh.

Re: How you got ur car

well, i was kind of looking for a nice car and i was riding with my brother and i saw this car, and i just stared at it and saw it said 300ZX and i fell in love. i went home and did some research and found out that i could afford an N/A. so after 6 months of searching and saving, i went and bought my baby.

I find it interesting that the 3000gt/GTO is comparible to the 300zx in the states.

In Australia a GTO is about double the price of a 300zx with a ratio of about 400zxs to 1 GTO. I would love to get my hands on a gto. 12.8 secong 1/4s bone stock would be awesome. Im going to look at trying to get a 2nd gen GTO after i get back from my trip.

Ignoring the fact that the JDM GTO's had better gearing for the 1/4 mile, Are the 2 really that comparable? I mean there is about a $10,000 surcharge in Australia to get a GTO over a 300zx. I have seen TT 300zxs go for as little as $10,000 for an auto and a manual for $13,000. The cheapest i have EVER seen a GTO is for $20,000 flat. Are they that much better? Obviously im expecting a little bit of biasedness asking the question in this forum but I will try to look through it

are you referring to the GTO MR running that much or just a standard GTO???

in the states the 3000GT VR4 only runs mid 13's at best...most owners seem to run higher in the 13's but still a quick car. the 300zxTT will usually match a VR4 in 1/4 mile performance but in general the 300zx is just a hair slower due to the 3000GT's better launch. after the 1/4 mile is up the 300zx has no problem catching up and overcoming the AWD VR4. so no, a VR4 in the US will not run a 12.8 1/4 mile. as far as i know the GTO MR runs 12.8 1/4 miles and it doesnt offer leather seats, 4 wheel steering, or any of the fancy extras that the VR4 does.

as for price, in general they seem to run about the same. in my area i can get VR4's for quite a bit cheaper than 300zx's but in general that run the same prices nation wide. on a good 300zxTT or 3000GT VR4, look to spend $12k-$20K.

also remember, mitsubishi doesnt have such a good name here in the US. between their reliabilty issues and tendency to screw over their customers when it comes to waranties. they arent on everyone in the US's wish list. this makes value suffer when a company has such a bad record. just a thought...
