Angry 1988 Civic MORE ACCELERATION

I just bought a 1988 Civic and it runs good and i just put a Sweet Talker Exhaust on it and made some intake adjusments until i get cold air induction but i when im driving im not getting as much acceleration as i would like throughout all gears, the accel is good from 1st to 2nd but 3rd just crawls up on RPM theres no boost there like 1st and 2nd have.
Without major money spending what can i do to get the better acceleration???

I would maybe give it a good tune up. Replace fuel filter, clean the air filter, new plugs, clean the injectors. Thats about all I can really think of.

what trim of civic do you happen to have? hf, std., dx, si? if you have one of the lesser models there's really not much HP and TQ to em and they won't accelerate too quickly

Yea there isnt really much you can do to the lower model ones. The best suggestion would either be to clean everything and get new stuff or just do a motor swap.

check out www.autodynamic.com they had clears there last time i checked it out...although people might ridicule you for them..since many consider them "rice", but do what you like, its your car, and I know i used to like them myself:o
either that or ebay, theyre on there

as for your engine....you probably wanna swap it out with a ZC if youre not looking to break your wallet(~600 for the engine) it will bolt to your current tranny, but the gear ratios wont be the best(but if you swap an si tranny in, it will be a lot better). you have to rewire your car from the dualpoint fuel injection it has now...over to mpfi, like the si has for the zc to work.
lots of people on here have done the zc swap, so just ask, and im sure someone will know the answer for ya
good luck

fuel filter

Was trying to replace fuel filter in my 88 honda civic dx and ran into a problem with the special banjo bolt, any special tools need to remove this? Which way does it loosen to the left or right? Kind of pain......Thanks.

The special banjo bolt unscrews counter clockwise. I just used a crescent wrench and an open end wrench. I don't remember what size though.

I'd put a JDM D15B into it. Twin-carb (no hassles with EFI wiring) and 100-105 bhp depending on the car it came from. The Aussie spec GL that got it was good for 98bhp (detuned for the then crap octane we had).
