I guess GM is offering a second 5 year extended warranty free of charge on thier engines to prove this. You can take advantage of it near the end of your original warranty if you wish. I wouldn't worry about it.
Hey, what do you have to say to them to give you this warranty? Seriously, I don't have piston slap or anything, but I would certainly be interested in 5 extra years of warranty for free.

All I know is thats what he told me you could do if you just ask for it. I can ask him for more details tonight. I'm sure if you just go talk to a service rep, they may know about it. If they play dumb, then, not sure. he knows all about it tho. I'll ask tonight.

Re: question for the owners of a newer silverado

I'm curious as to whether this is happening to all Chevy truck engines, or just the new generation stuff? I only seem to hear the problem from the 4.8/5.3/6.0 folks.. Is it an issue with anyone who has the old tried and true 4.3 V6 that's been around for 20 years?

Re: question for the owners of a newer silverado

my 01 has about 111,000 on it an it does make some noise on startup, tho im not ready to call it piston slap yet. if the new gen engines r anything like the old ones, its a lifter that sticks. either way its not gonna hurt the engine. the pistons not gonna hit the cylinder wall hard enuf to score it unless the piston actually breaks free from the rod, in which case a scratched cylinder is the least of ur problems lol.

and as far as the old engines showing piston slap, i doubt youll find it cuz as far as i know not a single thing under those hoods is made of aluminum haha least of all the heads or block.
