Question question for the owners of a newer silverado

does anyone have an 05-04 silverado with piston slap????? To what I have read and heard the material of the block and heads are different and also the 03s had the original setup so it was like a 99-02 silverado which was more common true???

I just bought one, I don't have any piston slap, but it is an 05 with less than 1000 miles on it. From what I've heard it happens in the cold, and actually doesn't really harm anything. I could be wrong tho.

I doubt it......I'd say you're being a bit paranoid about that part of it.

I believe the "piston slap" issue is greatly overstated. If you read this forum - many readers would get the idea that Chevy trucks have lots of problems and few solutions. However on this forum is a recent poll done by a reader/thread starter about would you buy another Chevy/GM truck again - with three choices - absoultely - I'd look around first - and definitely not.

So far about 150 responders to the poll show more than 90 would definitely buy another GM/Chevy truck while only 20 would definitely not and 30+ would look at other choices before buying another Chevy/GM truck (heck - I love my truck - but even I'd probably look around before buying - just because of curiosity about new trucks ).

However often on the AF forum - the complainers seem to be "many more" - a majority - on prblems and concerns while the satisfied owners seem to be "many less" - a minority. I believe piston slap - while yes - some do have it - is not the "dreaded" issue and big concern that many of the threads seem to make it. I've only actually talked to two owners here in my town of an 03, and only one owner of either an 04, or 05 who had piston slap. Just my opinion - it isn't as big an issue as some think.

Yeah, I talked to my dad about this piston slap thing, He so happens to be the service manager for our local chevy dealership. They are aware of this issue, and it is a constant, however it does not affect the durablitity of the engine nor does it cause any damage. I guess GM is offering a second 5 year extended warranty free of charge on thier engines to prove this. You can take advantage of it near the end of your original warranty if you wish. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have something like 85,000 miles on my 02 silverado and PIston slap every morniing.I took to the dealership 3 times, they say it's normal for that year or soo...Anyways on the 3rd trip to the dealership about it they showed me a guy who put 170,000 miles on his truck and it also had piston slap and it has no problems. So i give up on it.I would buy chevy again, well maybe not chevy but I would buy GMC ,I like the frontend alot better then the chevy one right now.
