Take the Idle valve off and clean it, when you put it back on make sure there isn't a vacuum leak.
It's probably clogged shut with carbon from the EGR valve, and you're running lean and dieing.
The engine's shouldn't die with an ECT problem. That's nearly physically impossible to begin with. The ECU cold-start enrichment on the OBD-II computers is at a maximum of 5% added fuel, and rarely exceeds 2.5% under most conditions.
