i can claim animals have a soul. i can also believe, at the same time, claim that PETA is a worthless, incoherent, self contradicting, self agrandizing organization. and i do. believing that animals have souls does not automatically make me a vegan nutcase. in fact, i believe bacon wrapped chicken and skirt steak are on the menu tonight for dinner.

if you intend for us to not draw gross generalizations about you being a bible thumper, i expect you to afford me the same courtesy

youre right, its not an encyclopedia. is a good story book, filled with excellent ideas. the problem is, so many people treat is as an encyclopedia. for instance, the book called "university of destruction" attempts to disprove all things taught by university professors (moral relativism, evolution, humanism, etc) by using nothing but bible verses. no logic, no reinforced argument. as if the bible alone is proof enough against huge logical proofs and philosophical inquiry. "here, look, it says there is no moral relativism in this paragraph, it therefore must be true"

though i understand i have may have prematurly lumped you in with those dolts that DO use it as an encyclopedia, and i apologize.

you can believe what you want to believe, but that doesnt make it true. i can go around all day believing the sky to be red and grass to be blue, but the facts arent going to change, no matter how hard i believe.

while i do not feel my beliefs were necessarily attacked, i do feel that i am being asked, more and more, to change them in order that they may fit with some christian idealists view of the world. sorry if i appear indignant, it is not personal, i promise. just built up frustration coming to a head.

Sure, but expect no quarter in subsequent debates/arguments if you continue to claim such.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on your evaluation of PETA. I only brought them up because I've heard enough of them utter those same very words after "they have feelings, too, you know."

Then, to you, my apologies.

"if you intend for us to not draw gross generalizations..." Again, that's them. I'd hate to retract my apologies.

Accepted. I'll give you no cause to retract yours.

Exactly! The fact remains that Jesus rose from the dead, witnesses attesting to His visits thereafter, with Doubting Thomas even touching His wound. But science cannot explain it so some Einstein decides to pose a dinosaur question.

Believe it or not, I understand what you are saying and there is a greater pressure being exerted by the Religious Right on the voting populace AND the elected/to-be-elected officials. Off topic but it's a cycle: they are attempting to halt/neutralize/negate the advances made by the Liberal Left in areas such as abortion, homosexuality and promiscuity. It's been an ugly battle being fought in the courts, news media, election campaigns, homes and schools.

In this regard, just as an example, I do not wish my tax dollars to be used to fund government-sponsored abortions. Thus, I will vote for politicians who will work to "grant my wish."
