Exclamation is turbo h22 a bad idea?

hey guys i heard that turboing a h22 is bad because of the high compression. but doesnt the b16a have high compression also? nobody says that they are bad for turboing. so if you guys can tell me why the h22 turbo would be bad or worse than the b16 turbo that would really help. thanks...................btw........contemplating on whether to get an accord and swap an h22 or a civic and swap a gsr or b16.....let me kno wat u guys think..........thanks

Probably because you can't put aftermarket pistons in with the stock sleeves. So if you want to replace the pistons (say to lower compression), you have to replace the sleeves as well. My friend has a turbo h22 (sleeves and pistons) and it's been running fine for 2 years now.

Re: is turbo h22 a bad idea?

Of the two cars you mentioned, i would pick the GSR civic over the accord any day. You can turbo a GSR engine fairly easily and without many problems. I'm actually considering turboing my 99 GSR right now. You can make 300whp all day on the stock engine. IF you wanted to build it, i have a friend that built his GSR up to 654whp......its insane, but i dont know if you want to spend $10000 on a rebuild.

All of this depends on the budget you have and the amount of work you want to put into the car.

Sleeves and Pistons are a must. But once you have that done, Boost as you please.

Yeah, I don't see why people make such a big deal about re sleeving. If your going to run really high boost on a B18 you'll need to re sleeve too.

Re: is turbo h22 a bad idea?

It's because they're made out of a different material than the b18s'. It's some kind of fiber (nickel maybe?).

Edit: sorry kind of just left that out there. They're not as strong as the other stock sleeves.

Without sleeves, its a bit hard to boost the h22 past 8psi. The stock sleeves are just inherently weak.

Yeah, its a fiber weave of some sort.

Re: is turbo h22 a bad idea?

turbo h22's r sick..i would get the older h22's..the closed deck ones..that way u won't have to worry about resleeving and all...

as far as accord with h22 or civic with gsr...
i vote for civic with gsr..

That doesn't matter, so still need to resleeve. The sleeves are still made out of that fiber.

Re: is turbo h22 a bad idea?

Is there a site where I could find all the parts for the 6 cylinder setup?

Re: is turbo h22 a bad idea?

pre 98 h22'a come stock with closed deck- no floating cylinders there
since ur referring to the innner cylinder walls then yeh they need to be resleeved but they can;t be bored....
u can just get drop in pistons and take car of that problem..
i think Mahle makes 91 drop in pistons..and they make rings too i think...
i know some1 with that setiup on the net..i think he's pullling 322 at the dyno at 12psi..and i don;t think he's nearly done yet...
