Re: Value or Custom?

I know it came factory with the automatic shifter on the colum because I took out the carpet and the original sound proofing is still above the tranny with no signs of patch work.

One thing that grabs my attention is the drivers side mirror. Its rectangular shaped, but I have no clue where it originated from. It looks cool as hell, but it leads up to the question of, "how did it get on the car?"

You guys have a lot of good information, but its hard to keep up! Anyways, I am going to go check the codes RIGHT now.

Re: Value or Custom?

I looked at the engine and I couldn't see back behind the distributor at all I looked all over the block for ANY type of identification. On the front of the block on the passengers side had the code, 783861 with YE below it.

I looked everywhere on the net and I can't figure out what this means.

Re: Value or Custom?

The "YE" is the engine "code". Wallaceracing.com and classicalpontiac.com both have excellent databases containing all the codes. According to that, it could be a '65 or '66 389, a '67 or '68 400, a '69 350 or '71-'72 455HO.
Look at the side of the block. How many expansion (freeze) plugs in each side? 2 would mean 389. Getting the date code would make this easy. It's located next to the distributor. It has an alpha-numeric coding system. It looks like a little "tag", screwed to the block (not really screwed down, but the castings LOOK like screws). The first digit is a letter, indicating the month of casting. The second and third are the day of the month. The last one is the last digit of the year. Get a flashlight and crawl uop on top of the engine. You'll see the code...
Also, look at the center exhaust ports protruding from the heads. There are numbers cast into them. What are they?
What is the VIN?
We can narrow it down considerably if you answer these questions.

Re: Value or Custom?

I spent 20 minutes scraping sludge off around the distrbutor and I found the number "14". The tranny has a square pan on the bottom. The VIN is: 237275K133263.

Still looking and I don't know what it means.

Re: Value or Custom?

Hes useing "big" pictures and it take them a little long to load on a V90 modem.

His intake is strange looking, it's not something you see all the time, it looks like a Offy to me, but without him telling us whats written on it who knows.

It's a colum shift auto, with 3 gears no power anything I do like that, even if it's not a GTO it was still a good price for the car.

Re: Value or Custom?

I missed all the stuff you guys wrote you must have been doing while I wrote.

Pbody is correct about the plugs, its the quickest way to figure out what you have.
Dude, even if you have a 389 you still have a great car! The car is in great shape and you got a good deal on it.
Once you get the numbers we should be able to come up with some answers.
If it is a GTO it's kind of strange how sombody would just want all the non power non air and not do a 4 speed. I did see the linkage for the auto, it sounds like a 3 speed auto.

keep the info comming.
