VTec Hard on engines?
Hey.......
I've been thinkin about getting an Integra 94-97 age group for a while now.. Except I was talking to someone the other day and said that Vtec is really hard on the engine and won't last as long as a normal non-Vtec engine??? His friend has a 96 Intega and it's allready smoking........ This true or not?????

Well, yes and no.
Since it's a performance engine, and it has higher compression then it will likely go thru more stress than lower compression engines. But with that in mind, it's obviously built to withstand higher compression & stress, and Honda (one of the best engine manufacturers in the world) would be absolutely retarded to build a high performance engine that could not withstand high performance, so I think your friend needs a good kick in the nuts for good measure. Get the vtec. It's good for you.

speechless is right. the only reason a gsr or type r would wear out faster is if you have a fast car you will drive it hard and rag it out. but thats true for all cars, vtec has nothing to do with it wearing out faster. give him two kicks

the higher you rev an engine and the more frequently you take that engine to high rpms will deffinetly affect the engines life span...
I agree that GSR/SiR engines will not last as long as say a B18A/B...if both engines are driven the same way, the non-vtec engine will last the longest.... now that said, Honda makes very very very strong motors so 200K out of either vtec or non vtec is easily done....
