Re: 1997 jetta gt Hesitations
The water test is not definitive, I still suspect the ignition coil as it is extremely common to fail on your vehicle & matches your description of symptoms well. Has it ever been replaced?

Re: 1997 jetta gt Hesitations
No it hasn't. so you think a bad coil can cause my car to hesitate when it is warm?

Re: 1997 jetta gt Hesitations
A bad coil can cause sputtering anytime, the water can make the problem more easy to see & hear as it will let the spark jump to ground through a crack in the coil housing a little easier. It's not a definitive test. '97's were well known for this problem, and you seem to have checked the rest of the system. Coil prices have come down alot on the aftermarket so it might be worth taking a chance on it.

Re: 1997 jetta gt Hesitations
When the coil in my 2.0L went bad, the car would stall as it got up to operating temp.

Isn't the coil used only when starting the car?
Not while driving it. |

Re: 1997 jetta gt Hesitations
i was just wonderding if the car studders just at a relatively close rpm range under light acceleration b/c if it does the throttle positioning sensor may be bad. I have a 97 Jetta GT and mine does this and it is coding that the MAF sensor and the TPS have low input voltage, but the check engine light hasnt come on.

My '97 is experiencing the same problems. Did you ever figure yours out? |
