1997 jetta gt Hesitations

Noticed at first a hesitation about once a week , now it more like almost every time I drive it.
This is how it gos: the hesitation comes after my car is idle at a stop. When i press the gas pedal it seems like it doesnt want to go, seems to stay in neutral and if you push the gas pedal to much it gives you a hard kick. So the way I do it is that I dont press the gas pedal real slow and it doesnt give me to much trouble except the cars behind honk. I noticed this in gears 1 to 3 especially up tp 3000 rpm's.
I had a tune up done, changed rotar cap, plugs, wiring etc and the problem persists. I am helpless.

Is this automatic? Does it feel like the transmission might be slipping? When was the fuel filter last changed? I've seen dirty fuel injectors cause this, you might want to take it to someone who can properly check out the fuel system to chck this as they are a bit pricey.

No i have a manual trans. I last changed the feul filter about a month ago. After my tune up it was fine for about a week then the problem continued.
Maybe transmission fuel is low? How much to check the fuel system? could it be the mass air flow sensor? Vaccuum line?

Also very noticeable when I wash my car and drive it. The hesitation or lack of power is more evident.

Well, the water thing throws the ignition coil into suspicion. It's located on the firewall, just follow the center wire from the distributor cap. Spray it with water & see if it starts acring & sputtering.

Re: 1997 jetta gt Hesitations

You can also spray the plug wires & distributor cap. Pull the wires from the ignition coil & distributor cap and look for burning of the metal wire ends and pins on the cap.
