Re: Heat gets cold, Temp guage high & erratic reving
You should check on your coolant level. Low coolant level tends to cause bubbles to form in places you don't want it like the
Idle Air control (IAC) which will cause your idle to go crazy. In addition if your coolant is really low you will start to overheat and get cold air from the heater. Fill up your system with a 50/50 mix of coolant/water. I'd suggest the pre-mixed stuff that you can buy in 1 gallon jugs from your local auto parts store or Walmart, etc. It should be full in the overflow tank located at the front right side of the engine bay...there is a dipstick in the tank, check the level...make sure it reads "full". Also, it should be topped up in both coolant fill caps. Open both caps up then slowly fill the passenger side coolant neck. Once you see the coolant filling up and nearly spilling out from the driver's side fill neck, cap the driver's side opening. From this point fill the passenger side coolant up to the top of the neck then cap it. You should fill the system up slowly to avoid getting bubbles in the system. Have you noticed coolant leaking from your car? Other possibilities: bad thermostat, bad water pump, bad radiator caps. Edit: by the way, you should check out www.probetalk.com lots of info there In addition, you will need to double check the cap on the passenger's side everyday for a few days to make sure all the bubbles have worked their way out. Just add some coolant if there is an air space. Last edited by Fizer70; 01-24-2004 at 03:00 AM. |

you might also want to look into a new head gasket because mine did the exact same thing before I sold it.

Re: Heat gets cold, Temp guage high & erratic reving
Wait.. there is 2 coolant tanks? I have a 91 Probe LX and I know of the one coolant reservoir on the passenger side connected to the windshield wiper spray, but I don't think I have a 2nd tank. My engine has been over heating as well and I replaced the thermostat and it still over heated. The coolant tank on the passenger side I did the 50/50 mixture of coolant and water. Does the water go in a seperate tank or am I doing it correctly?

It sounds like u need a new rad. Also a ford probe all years and models have 1 radiator tank unless you installed another one yourself
