I have a '00 GT & my temp guage rises just above 210 when in city traffic. The temp does fall back to 200 after a while. The manual states that 200 is the normal temp. Is this a potential problem? I recently installed a new thermostat along with coolant flush from valvoline.
Also, when the car is running at night, the headlights stay on even though the switch is in the off position. Is this part of the DRL & if so, would disabling the DRL allow me to turn the headlights off when the car is running at night? Thanks |

Re: Temp guage concern & headlight question
I would say that your temp fluctuation is no concern. The 97-03 GP's have auto-on headlights, which is controlled by the ambient light sensor sticking out of the center of the dash. I personally like the feature, although it sucks at the drive-in theatre if you want to start the car for a few to cool the interior off or out the windows up/down.

Re: Temp guage concern & headlight question
Thanks for the reply.
As for the headlights, I have a Jeep that also has the auto-on feature but these can be turned off with a flip of the switch. I'll just have to adjust to the Pontiac setup. |

Re: Temp guage concern & headlight question
Man, i have completly disabled my DRL's and automatic headlights in my 2000 GTP. I dont mind drl's, but hate automatic headlights. If you feel like going that rout, PM me and i'll tell you how to. Its actually quite easy and only costs a couple bucks at radio shack and about a half hours time.

i have an '00 grand prix, 3.1, se, automatic. i have the auto option on my headlights as well and i have found that if you want to run the engine without the headlights on, like at the drive-in, just set your emergency (parking) brake and the lights go out.

Re: Temp guage concern & headlight question
I notice my temp guage is not working. For example, if the car is on-enging, but the guage is not moving...it always stays at the bottom. What seems to be wrong? How can I tell if my engine is runing hot or need coolent if the gauge is not working?
