Re: Howdy men!
Well, I feel inclined to make the following commentary:
1) US Army Generals do not travel the world giving helicopter instruction. It's done by lower ranking officers, and mostly Warrant Officers whose specialty is as a pilot. If he was a Colonel at the time, he may have flown a small amount but would have been in command of the unit. There's just enough detail in the military history to be somewhat believable, but not enough, IMO, to stand up to scrutiny. 2) Main Entry: de·co·rum Pronunciation: di-'kOr-&m, -'kor- Function: noun Etymology: Latin, from neuter of decorus 1 : literary and dramatic propriety : FITNESS 2 : propriety and good taste in conduct or appearance 3 : ORDERLINESS 4 : plural : the conventions of polite behavior There are many definitions as we can all see. I think (but alas will never know) that Mr. D was intending his scathing declaration to mean #4, that we have no conventions of polite behavior. While this may be true during the very heated political debates, I think he has failed to see enough forums - as he stated he did - to realize that there is in fact much polite behavior to be found on AF. As to the other definitions, well, IMO there is plenty of #1,2 and 3 here. 3) He clearly states in this post that he came here looking for some help with his older vehicle. That, plainly, is a fabrication. For there is no post by him other than the commentary why he thinks the GTO is the best muscle car ever. No posts were started by him (unless he later removed them) in reference to an older vehicle, or the problems he was experiencing. Again, substance and enough info to be believable, doesn't stand up to scrutiny. 4) This guy isn't a retired General from the US Army. If he was, he wouldn't be so cowardly as to flip us the finger then run away. A real US General would at least show some backbone and integrity, and attempt to instill some decorum, intelligence, and all the other virtues he was espousing, prior to getting fed up in disgust and quitting. 5) To be fair, his analysis of some of the debates in the forums are accurate, insofar as people not listening to other's points of view and digging up references on the internet. But I haven't seen any disclaimers or policies stating that these were against policies here @ AF. If this guy really WAS a general, he'd have understood that there are rules, and read them to understand what is going on here. He would also have been intelligent enough (theoretically) to understand that political debate and commentary are very volatile issues, and made an allowance for that, the same as the mods in the political forums do. 6) The combination of "Aloha" and "Vaya Con Dios" are contrived and don't fit with the profile of who he says he is, or indeed the tone of the rest of the post. Another indicator of falsity. 7) The pettiness shown in his comment about other nations' citizens being insignificant is counter to his previous prideful statement that he had "...later traveled the world training rotary winged pilots in their flight and weapons systems." If other nations and their citizens are insignificant, why have pride that you trained them? 8) Despite the content errors noticed above, the post was well written, without spelling errors. With the vehemence of the message contained therein, it is difficult to believe that no errors were made in spelling. Though I am a spelling Nazi, I have made errors in posts where I was adamant about my position. The fact that there were none in this post, it is extremely long, and he posted it approximately 30 minutes after his previous post, indicates that it was probably cut and pasted from a word processor after some preparation. All in all, I think this poster sounds like a former or perhaps current member that felt they needed to take a cheap shot, not the person portrayed (falsely) in the post.

Re: Howdy men!
I just find it interesting that the General assumes the dissatisfied are all non-Americans. How could a TRUE American possibly disagree with their government and it's actions? Naturally, anyone daring to disagree with a blind patriot is a "small-minded, mean-spirited" petty individual- part of the "continual scheme of defaming all things American". Absurd....why is it so hard to understand and accept honest dissent?

-edit-
Exactly, he's making an assumption about dissenters, which is an incorrect one.

Re: Howdy men!
Waahahahohohoheeheehee! Lot of interesting points there.
This IS just a bulletin board in every shape and form and has nothing to do with debate or discussion in the true sense. Carrrnuttt- we know what a southern democrat is don't we? Remember how after the election they analysts were talking about how the demo should have run a southern democrat instead of kerry who alienates the southern voters? I reckon that's what he means- a staunch voter for southern demos. ??? Fred- The way I understood it sounded like he trained after the Vietnam era and no doubt quit long before he became a brigadier. If he went to west point he came out a 2nd Lt. and coulda been active doing that for many years and ranks. Why the bio though? Who cares? Decorum always meant like class or being under control to me??? I missed whatever you mention about a GTO?! As far as cruising forums, I've gone to places got information I needed, or not, and left after registering and then forgetting about the place. Never read all the forums though. #4 surprised he even bothered #6 Every danged swabbie and jarhead I ran into that went through Pearl or just got drunk in Hawaii on R & R used that aloha crap. And any sailor or Marine that went to Tijana came back with adios mother flogger. I don't get any relavance there?? To me it sounded like the way a lifer looks at things. RSX- don't worry if the general doesn't know what you are- we do. As for the advice I'm already not reading some people's posts due to lack of interest. Might be a good idea for some of us to bail out of this cesspool and find another better forum to schmooze around on...

I still think it's someone blowing smoke. Just enough substance to be somewhat believable, but enough inconsistencies to trash the illusion. And not enough credibility for my further commentary.
