There not that weak....I have it in mine, and i did it for 1 REASON!!! Cost!!! 900 bucks from hmotorsonline.com! Cant beat that at all. Its def faster in the high end than the B18B1, but not by much. Despite its hp numbers are the same as a GSR, the torque lack you can def. feel.

Cost Comparison: (from hmotorsonline.com) When i made my decision!

b16a SiR-II B18c GSR

engine-$900 engine $1700
Ecu- $200 ecu-$200
shipping -$284 shipping-$284

D.I.Y. engine install=FREE
Total cost $1384 vs. $2184

Cost difference: $800 bucks... For 800 bucks i can piece together a turbo kit to make up for the loss of torque.

It all comes down to your needs. If you want to make the most power out of the car, go with a gsr engine. Otherwise a cheap alternative for a daily driver, the b16a -sir2 was the way to go IMO!!!

Not that weak huh? Well why is it that every civic SI that I race at the track in the high 15's? Also the HP is not the same between the B16A and the B18C1. Tq is a lot lower in the B16A also like you said. A B16A might feel fast in a hatch or civic but not my cup of tea for a integra.

Or you could take that $1384 + that $800 and build a really nice turbo kit for the LS and blow both of them out of the water.

Re: what engines are "swapable" in a 96 integra?

Isnt a usdm 170hp? A B16a SiR-II engine is 170hp also. I never said it wasnt weak. I said it "It isnt that weak" meaning compared to a b18b.. I know the gsr has a shit load more ft/lbs torque than a b16a. Never said it didnt. In fact i believe i stated that in a b16a motor you can definatley feel the lack of torque. I traded a friend the rebuilt LS transmission in it + 50 bucks for a newer GSR tranny and put that in too.

Also if my option was to build a ls motor, hell i would have done it. But the fact is i bought the car for 300 BUCKS!!!!! yeah it needed a lot of work. The engine was shot. It was ran months without ANY radiator fluid..... The block and head were warped beyond belief. The car burned oil so bad the girl told me she apparently put a quart in a week... Then the timing belt snapped. She was just going to junk it! They only wanted to give her $150 bucks for it. So i offered her 300 and sure enough about 2 hrs later i had it towed home.... My mother almost about killed me when i told her i bought it. Then she saw it, and was speechless....

I only have 1 goal with this car! Nothing more than just a RELIABLE car with a some power.

Then over winter break my friend wrecked his em1, he was pissed at that point with it. I picked up the JR supercharger from it for $250 bucks!!! Not to bad hunh?? All that it needs is new sensors,--they were broke, and a piece on the manifold cracked.-weldable and was.

I figured for under $2,000 bucks i have a reliable car that when i get around to supercharging it, It will be fun to drive, but still maintaion the good MPG!!!

Just my .02, thanks for listining. This setup was cheap reliable and suited my needs, I dont need two track cars i already have one.

Basically back to his question look at your needs. I wanted an engine that i could bolt in and was ready to go. Ive bought too much bad engine stuff before and didnt want to get burned. But if you want to build a engine for a track car heck. Get a b20 block of ebay for like 150 bucks and a GSR head for like 450, then misc. parts, gaskets, Intake, dizzy..etc. Shouldnt run no more than 600. Then you would have a killer setup, that has 0 miles and is ready to go.

Just look at what your needs are out of the car. All b-series engines are "swappable" but if money is not an option, you can head over to k-series, or maybe h!

Re: Re: what engines are

Well the prelude that I test drove was a private seller and I didnt like the feel. It was too heavily moded and didnt feel good. I needed something a bit more dependable. I finally settled on a 98LS 5sp from a dealership, it felt really smooth and solid even though it had higher miles than the Prelude. I guess how it is driven makes some of the difference. Car had one owner and was well taken care of. I am probably going to pick it up today. I am going to switch out the 14inch rims with the 15s that I have on my CRX. Anyone looking to buy a good reliable 90 CRX DX? Car runs great, interior is worn but he is reliable as hell.

Yes it will bolt right in, actually looking at the motor from the outside you won't even be able to tell the difference between them except for the B20 stamp om the block. Your friend more than likely had a B20A5 you need a B20B or B20Z the B20Z is perferred if you are not going to change out the pistons (it has higher C/R than the B20B)
The B20B has 126hp and 133lb-ft and 8.8:1 c/r
The B20 has 146hp and 143lb-ft and 9.6:1 c/r

Re: what engines are "swapable" in a 96 integra?

Not sure, he got the motor did a new t-belt and when he went to put it in he said the mount was to low.

so it looks like i need to get a B20Z?

Specifications:
Year Engine Model Horespower Torque Compression Ratio
97 – 98 B20B 126hp@5400rpm 133ft-lbs@4300rpm 8.8:1
99 - 00 B20Z 140@6200rpm 133ft-lbs@4500rpm 9.6:1

i always thought that the B20B was just the same as ower B18B.
Do you know of a good place to get a B20Z?
