Re: Re: Renaming The USA

U.A.E. is basically the same thing - they call themselves "Arab" which is even more ambiguous that "American". Australia is also a continent as well as a country (albeit there are no other sovereign nations residing there, but you get the idea...)

Call it America, the country then. I think American works fine.

Hey, Kids in the Hall is classic! And I don't know how anyone can stand Air Farce or This hour - such stupid! pointless! humour! (its not even funny). You want a satire about society and the news thats actually funny, watch the Daily Show - THAT show is funny.

Next thing someone will be telling me that Train 38 or 48 is a good Canadian reality show...
(some of our attempts at programming here are so lame they boarder on being offensive)

Re: Renaming The USA

**Warning- history lesson **

In 1776, the second continental congress agreed that peace with England was out of the question. The continental Army was assembled, led by G. Washington. The Declaration of Independence was signed, claiming that these United States were free from English rule.

Each state, or colony, was unable to wage an effective war on England alone, therefore they United to fight the common enemy (This is why the confederacy lost the civil war, but thats another lesson ) After the treaty of Paris(1783 i think) ended the war, The states decided that they would band together as a Union, with each state primarily governing itself, with a federal government for military defense, treaties, and interstate commerce.

America was originally founded under the Articles of Confederation, a near powerless method of government. This favored states rights, but did a crappy job of regulating relations between them. Hence the Constitution was written, strengthening the federal government, again referring the us as these united states (notice the plurality).

It wasn't until around the American Civil War that Unites States(Singular) was accepted as our name, due to the severe strengthening of the federal government during the war.

Whew, My hands are tired, it's late, so if a fact or two isn't entirely accurate, don't condemn me, just point it out and I'll fix it

Re: Renaming The USA

Call it AF??? No? Ok...

Terra wasn't bad, we'd then be Terrans. Wait, that's from Starcraft. Well, there's the thought of Empire. But then wouldn;t we need an emperor? And lords? that's too complicated...

How about Middel Earth? It's a piece of earth in the middle of the other 2 countries of America, yes yes?

How about Invasor? it means invador in spanish. This works for 2 reasons. We are invadors of other lands (which i have no problem with) and America is full of invadors. A particular one are hispanics who will be the majority soon......

We can't help it if the doors are wide open and some of the jobs do not want to be filled by US citizens. The only obstacle we have is the English language, which we plan on replacing soon.

Seriously, it may seem like that now, (that the hispanics are more and more coming in), but if I am not mistaken, its been that way with a whole lot of groups throughout the history of the US. Chinese, Italians, Africans, etc etc the list goes on. Now as for the hispanics, it may seem more noticable, but one has to realize that the Amercias with the exception of the US, Canada and Brazil are all spanish and are closer to us. So, naturally it would seem and be more noticable there would be more spanish coming into the country.
