Renaming The USA

I'm curious, has anyone ever noticed that the USA doesn't really have a name to/for itself. (Reson I ask is cause I was watching a documentary of nations)

Case in point, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, etc, they have individual states/provinces and are united under one nation but they actually have a name. The United States of America is also, but never actually choose a name. It stayed calling itself the USA. Are we really calling ourselves an action/activity/description of what we are, but not an actual name?

This brings up another question, what do you call its citizens?
Canadians are from Canada, Mexicans are from Mexico, yet Americans are from the USA. But technically so are Canadians, Mexicans, Costa Ricans, Brazilians etc since they reside in North, Central and South America.

Therefore, while it may never happen nor can we go back in time and make the forefathers of the USA choose a name for itself, I ask, what do you think the USA should be called if it ever were to be called anything else?

I think when people here 'Americans' they first think of the citizens of the USA. In the same way that people here the term 'Asians' and immediately think of the folks in south east Asia. Though everyone in the hemisphere is technically an 'American' in the same way people from Asia are all 'Asians'.

Don't you guys watch the Simpsons? Bart named our country "Bonerland." With presidents like Bill Clinton, I think it fits rather nicely.

Seriously, guys, I can't think of anything, but Americaland? Bonerland?.
It should of been called Columbia since it was Columbus that came over. But come to think about it, Leif Ericson was here first. hmmm Leiferica sounds too ponographic. Damn, now I know why the forefathers never choose a name.

Anyone else want to give it a try.

Re: Renaming The USA

Iv always called it America.

Its a nation at the southern end of the North American continent, made up of 50 member states.

USA refers to the 50 states that make up America, hence United states OF America.

There certianly isn't another country that I can think of with that name.

Re: Renaming The USA

I call US citizens Americans. As a Canadian, I'm a Canadian, or a North American, I'm not an American.

Actually now that you mention it, USA is quite fitting, as I've observed Americans use descriptions to name almost everything

Corn dogs? We call them Pogos. Tissue Paper? Kleenex. Orange Cones? Pylons. Rubber band? An elastic. Coloured Pencils? Pencil Crayons. etc. etc. Just another generalizing observation on my part.

I rather see the government run as a business than the way it is run now. A business is here to make a profit, government isn't making a profit 99% of the time. Most American governments would be closed down they way they run the business.

Governments exist to protect and serve the population, not to profit from them.
