Y87 - Performance Enhancement - 3800GT Package
Includes G80, J65, QCB

G80 - Axle, Limited Slip Auburn upgraded to 98+ Torsen-Zexel

J65 - Brake System, Power, Front and Rear Disc

QCB - Tire, P235/55R16 Touring (98+ replaced with P245/50ZR16 and GMPP Firebird GT wheels)

Not much of a handling package in my opinion be better of with a Formula Firebird.

Well, I know that the 93-97 V8 F-Bodies are some of the best road racing cars you can buy for under $10,000; what's the difference between them and the V6 models, besides the obvious difference in power and transmission?

That's because you live in North America, where the choice of fast and cheap cars is limited, it's like saying (Insert crap TV show here) is the best thing on TV when other Networks are showing (Insert even worse TV shows here).

Over here (New Zealand) US$10,000 could get me:
-A JDM DC2 Integra Type R
-Honda Civic SiR (Whether it be EF9, EG6 or the EK model)
-A Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 (Twice or three times over)
-An FD3S (Or older) Mazda RX7 Twin Turbo
-A Toyota MR2 GTS
-A BMW 325i Motorsport (E30)
-Come to think of it, it could be possible to find a 328i for that price (In E36 form)
-A Nissan S14 Silvia K's
-A Mitsubishi Lancer GSR Evolution (The original)
-A Subaru Impreza STi (Earlier model, probably a Version 3)
-A Toyota Altezza RS200 (Though $10k is sort of pushing it)
-Mazda MX5 makes a good case for itself, just not stock.
-An Audi Quattro GT Sport (Could almost buy an Audi S2....)
-Toyota Celica ST205 GT4
-An early (98ish) Alfa Romeo 156 V6

And the list goes on........ Point is there are far better track cars to be had than an F Body for the same price, the only problem is that they're either non-compliable in the US or fanboys have hiked up the prices. Oh well.

And yes, to answer the thread starter, I'd take a GTO over an F Body in a heartbeat, just make it a Monaro, which has been de-scooped (Nicer front, RHD, give it the GTO's exhaust note, though). I'd much sooner have a luxury coupe over a muscle car attempting to be sporty. LS2 > LS1 as well.

I'd take a Camaro over any of those cars. You can get a F body w/ the LT-1 for around 5k now.

Sure, that's personal preference, but there's no denying that they are actually better cars for a road course about 80% of them were designed for that exact purpose.

yeah thats a good point...I'd prolly say the camaro is the fastest car available for 5 grand...but this is about road racing...5 grand sub-14 sec car with 1,000 in suspension mods....that would be an awesome road racing car...how many hairpins are you taking with integra type r's when racing? not many...

It's a good point, but I really think the Camaro Z28 could compete with most of those cars quite well; it's a very underrated and misunderstood car when it comes to road racing performance.

F-bodies are overachievers in the handling department, they may not be the best road racers but they are by no means the worst, they are better handlers than people give them credit for. On a side note the 3800 Camaros are very capable cars, and IMO one of the most underrated cars on the road.

Springs, shocks, sway bars, tires

Don't get me wrong though if a V-6 car set up right it could out handle the V-8 car due to the fact you have better weight distribution.
