Re: belts squealing

Try testing your alt, and water pump if they are bad they will make excessive drag and the tensioner may be bad too. Also the alignment of one of your pulleys may be off you might want to look into that too.

Re: belts squealing

actually the soap will/should last alot longer then belt lube (spray).

belt lube is supposed to condition the belt but extreme heat/cold it causes dryness and cracks in the belt causing excess wear and squealing. Soap conditions the belt and does not dry out allowing for longer lasting protection. But is not recommended on new non-squealing belts.

Re: belts squealing

well, my belt has started squealing again about 10 minutes after I get it quiet from the soap. I'm just going to change my belt again. It just sucks having to change it all the time (12k miles). They aren't hard to change at all....especially since this is my third one. It is cold here, so maybe the belt is just so dried up and cold all the time?

Re: belts squealing

12k is way to soon to be changing a belt, I have used soap on the belt on my jeep since I got it, I've only had to do it twice in 10,000 + miles, it worked great for me. You might want to check your pulley's if you do change your belt, they might be burred and causing the excess wear on the belt.

Make sure the belt if fully seated on the pulley's before starting the engine, sometimes it will fall into place but most of the time it will not.

well sorry to hear the soap trick didn't help.
