belts squealing

94, my belts have started to whine, is there a way to make them quit besides getting new belts?

Re: belts squealing

There's some stuff you can pick up at an auto parts store, but it doesn't stop the noise for very long. New belts aren't that spendy, so I would definatly recommend just to change them

Re: belts squealing

I'm having the same problem.....this will be my 3rd belt in 38,000 miles. I think my adjuster pulley is actually what is making the belts bad or they just seem to wear out after 12,000 miles. It's kind of annoying. Is this the normal wear time for them? I sprayed a little WD40 on it and it was quiet for about 10 seconds. It seemed a little more quieter once I sprayed the pulley (bearing, if there is one).

Re: belts squealing

use a bar of soap on the ribs/grooves of the belt, dry bar soap not liquid soap. this will take care of that annoying squeel.

Re: belts squealing

The smooth side of the belt is getting shiny. That is why I figured it was the belt again. What brand or kind of dry soap? There are different kinds of dry soaps.

Re: belts squealing

coolant would lubricate the belt causing slippage, thus squealing.

Re: belts squealing

how long should the belt last? As I said before, this is my second belt in 38k miles, now needing a third.

Re: belts squealing

it should last way longer then that, they are suppose to be replaced every 60,000 miles according to the book, so 1 should last at least that long (60,000 miles).

Re: belts squealing

Yes, just rub the soap in the grooves of the belt, u don't have to pack the soap into the grooves - just rub it on.
