Re: How to tell a GS-R?

with a perfect driver and drag tires and every possible element on your side a 14.7 is MAYBE possible in a GTS. I have never seen anything below 15.2 for a stock GTS in the 1/4. But you got the time slip so maybe you just had all of the above. :/

how high above sea level is the track you go to? I bet the 14.7 he ran was pretty damn close to sea level.

Re: Re: Re: How to tell a GS-R?

That was in Montgomery, AL.. about 3 hours north of me. Elevation is 250ft there. And NO, I wasn't using drag radials.. completely stock except for 17" wheels. I also had full interior. Here are a few more runs. On the run that I got 15.1, I grinded 2nd on my 1-2 shift.

And to prove that I was actually the car that was on the slip (#74)

I'm not the only person to get times like this in a stock GT-S.....

Re: How to tell a GS-R?

celica gts 180 hp vvtl-i
about 2550~2600 lbs
6-spd
those are good numbers
well i never doubt the potential of the new gt-s and frankly with decent driver it could very well dip into the high 14s
you must be either a really good driver or have a freak motor or both cause all the GT-s around my area have aparently bad drivers
never met one that can hang with me past second gear
although they have very good top end as well

Re: How to tell a GS-R?

I find that article a little mean towards the Gsr. Gsr only does 15.7 in the quarter?, when my 2001 was completely stock i used to do 15.1-15.4. Also they were using those crappy michelin tires that's why the skidpad was only 0.80g. BTW whats the variable lift engagement point on the celica gts?

I agree all those times seem off except for the ITR. the gs-r and the Gt-s should both be lower. And I believe the SH should as well.

As far as the engagement point, I believe vvt-i is more comparable to i-vtec where there really is no "engagement" point.

VVTL-i = Variable Valve Timing with Lift and Intelligence. "Lift" on the GT-S engages at 6200rpms. In order to stay in "lift", you MUST go all the way to the rev limiter at 8400rpms before shifting. Most magazine times for the GT-S were obtained shifting at the 7800rpm redline (which is also the rev limiter on the 2002).

I agree.. the gt-s, prelude, and gs-r should all be .3 lower or so.

VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence) is what is used in the celica GT and most other toyota vehicles.

VVTL-i is what the Celica GT-S has. VVTL-i is comparable to i-VTEC in that the valve timing is infinitely variable.. unlike VTEC.
