I know on the 87-93 GT they changed the control arms so that you have to replace the arms and not the ball joint. But there are people who have changed the ball joints on them with some customizing but it's kind of a bitch from what I remember so I didn't go that route.

When I had to change mine and didn't have the money for tubular A-arms and didn't want to spend the cake on stamped ones. I grab a set of 4-banger one's from a junkyard($40) which are exactly the same as GT but the ball joint can be replaced. Threw new balljoints and bushings in em and threw em on the car.

Those one's summit will do the same thing so if you don't want to goto a junkyard those would be the next best route. Just paying $180 for stamped one's when all you need is a $10 ball joint kills me.

Re: ball joint control arm question 88gt

i have replaced plenty of them on the 87 and up,there not bad at all, when you go to zone and get your ball joints, tell them you want to rent the ball joint press, only thing you half to watch is when you put a jack stand under the car you half to use a floor jack to support the a-arm!

Re: ball joint control arm question 88gt

why anyone would change a a-arm because og a ball joint is beyond me!if you ever have changed an a-arm on a stang you would know that the coil springs are a PIA to do without the proper spring compressor(not impossible)just a pain and lil' scary!good luck with what ever you decide!
