Back to the Sauber, after sometime on the shelve.

This is the final result for the front section. The plate that covers the front section and the front section, now look as if they born together (at least for me ). Anyway, I', currently working on sanding off mold lines and preparing the body for painting.

See ya later!

That looks promosing already. I think though that the edges on both sides might need a bit more smoothing as the curves are a bit to round I would say. Take a close look on the reference pictures you can fnid and you'll see what I mean
Keep it going!

Re: Progress: Yet another Sauber Mercedes C9

Darn... Guess I'll be looking to those photos with more attention. I tried to make it look real on the lower part of the plate and missed the sides

I guess I'll keep it this way, since I already started painting the body. But I'll be building another Sauber in a near future, with the beautifull AEG decals and I'll be more carefull with the plate.

This Sauber is turning out to be a good test bench for the next build

Thanks for your comment!

here goes nothing...

This is the current status on this project. At the beginning I thought about super detailing this kit, but I guess that won't happen. I've had this project running for a long time now, and I just want to finish it as soon as I can.

It was a good test-bench for some techniques. I had never tried painting a carbon effect. I had never used wiring in the engine and I had never tried painting small parts with an airbrush which turned out to be a good surprise.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos. I had some trouble with the decals on the dahsboard. 2 out of 3 broke when I was applying them. I hope the remaining are better.

See ya!

Re: Progress: Yet another Sauber Mercedes C9

The chassis is looking very promising. Which parts of the carbon fibre have been painted? They all look excellent. Can't wait to see it mated to the bodyshell.

I know what it is like to sometimes bit off more that you can chew modeling wise. Very sensible to limit yourself in order to get the damn thing finished.

minor update. Just fitted the wheels.

RallyRaider - All carbon looking parts were painted except for the cubes behind the back wheels. For those, I used a Modeler's carbon sheet from HLJ which was really hard to work with, because the decal kept on breaking itself, and the cf padron was not he best for the job...

Thank you for your comment!

I agree with Phil, however, you have to keep pushing yourself and you certainly have here with all the techniques you've tried. Great work! A big step in improving models is painting most parts with an airbrush it makes a big difference doesn't it?
I can't wait to see this finished!

That last pic looks great photography wise. Have you thought of entering this in the Le Mans comp?

You've certainly come a good way with this kit, in trying new techniques for yourself and so on. The results are pretty good actually. So if you have that "ok that's it for this kit feeling", then it's wise to leave it there and finish it.

When I did mine, I did exactly that. I even didn't do the engine, as I felt not capable enough at that time to do it. So I focused on the outside and cockpit and learned a lot in these area's

Keep it going, coz you're going great.

Minor update on this project.

Just painted the black panels on the windows (not yet glued):

Fitted the front lights and protection (glued with white glue). I didin't felt like painting the black base of the orange lights:

The decals on the wing broke in three parts. I managed to get them in the right position, but was unable to hide a small wrinkle. I hope the remaining decals are better to work with.
