I dont think it will happen not because it is proved safter than cigarettes or tax reasons. It wont ever be legal becasue the goverment has too big of an ego and tehy have been telling people its bad and forcing major communication companies to braudcast anti drug messages and such.

i dont do pot bc i dont like it, but i was gonna patch a tire on an explorer today and kept gettin whiffs of the raw unburnt smell like everyonce in a while when i was by it. it was really wierd. I looked for it but couldnt find it.

Alright... the war on drugs is a war the government can't win. It's like the prohibition, they banned alcohol yet people started making it "underground". There will always be drugs no matter if they're legal or not, especially pot. It's a weed and can grow in many different environment conditions. Hell they grow some of the strongest stuff up in British Columbia, which is way up north and cold. Most people get caught growing, because they either get seen going to the pot if it's grown outside, or the electric company turns them in, or the government files over with heat sensitive cameras and sees the heat output from the lights that are used. It's easy to get caught, that's why I say if you're going to grow then only grow 1 plant at a time. In that case if you get caught the most you'll get is a $125 fine (here in the US) and they will take your plant. No jail time, jsut a slap on the wrist and wallet. Imagine all the $ wasted by the government to to spend on getting rid of marijuana over the past 2 decades alone. It's had to have cost the government (and tax payers) BILLIONS of dollars. Where if they made it legal and taxed it, they'd get that $ back within 5 years.
This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer gets high because the crows claw his eyes. And when the cops burn all the pot, people gather around and then they throw cut hair on it...hilarious.

The reason they use heat sensative equipment is because it grows at a higher tempature than most all other plants. This technology is pretty much useless where I live because people grow oakra in this area and grows at the same tempature so if they do fly overs its like huge blocks of heat everywhere. This was a big news story here a few years ago when they were attempting to start doing fly overs here and canceled the program after just a few runs because it was going to be too much trouble to try to sepearte the crops from the weed. Meth has become alot bigger problem in this area so there is very little if any crack down on weed any more besides finding it on someone randomly in a rutine trafic stop or something alone those lines.
