Re: GS-R power?

could it be the secondaries that open at the earlier RPM of the 2 stages where you notice the diff?

I drove a GSR with I/H/E/no cat/(VAFC equivalent)

and not sure if hed messed with the fuel or the engagments but I only rapped out first and it was loud all the way through and revved so Fing quick through first I didnt even notice the 2 distinct changes in sound. did notice one, heard/felt what I thought was the actual crossover and from there the needle jumps right to redline. it is a great feeling though Ill tell you that. and I get to experience it again tomorrow @ 7PM and every day after that , im so happy! oh man I dont think Im gonna be able to sleep tonight.

yeah I know in my gs-r 1st is gone before you even know what is going on, if the ground is wet it will actually spin the tires when vtec engages in 1st gear (shitty tires right now), second you feel ok till 3000 then it seems to bog a bit until abotu 5000 then she starts to pull and when 5900 hits you feel the extra pull and hear the sound change. third is about the same as 2nd. as far as fourth well i've never really pushed her more than halfway though it.

As far as the original thread starter... yes a gs-r is a great deal. with a good driver you will be able to bang out 1/4 times almost as good as a ITR. and they are a bit cheaper and easier to find than the ITR.

Re: GS-R power?

sounds like vtec hits pretty strong in the B17, this will be my first time ever even seeing the b17, hopefully that little bit of torque over the B16 will give me a good advantagever my friends EF B16 coupe. I think he got the JDM 170HP one though since it is the SIR2 and has no number after B16A

Sorry to get OT on your thread Turbo Monster. 94tegRS...yeah, your right. i don't pretend to know much about civics because i really only know what i hear from my friend. i just thought it was weird when pepsihatman said his vtec engaged at 5500. i know MINE (tsugsr concurs) is at 4400 (not saying anyone else is wrong) i'll search on the internet a little more to see if i can find anything online that mentions it.

Turbo Monster- all integras are great cars!

"GSR motors feel like they have a dual stage VTEC but in reality, it is the dual stage intake manifold..at 5500-6000 RPMs, the secondaries [butterflies] open up and u can hear that more distinctly than VTEC at 4400 RPMs..on a stock B18C1 of course."

That would make sense, I only noticed the 5,500, or 6k change because it was so pronounced. I would make sense that it starts to engage earlier, I'll listen again when I drive it next, and see if I can pick out the 4,400 start, and everything else. Thanks for the article.

u can upgrade to an ECU that can make your VTEC kick in sooner

this is true... you can also get cams that are called "vtec killers" which basically just keeps the vtec on at all times. but honda spent a shit load of time and money figuring out exactly when vtec would be most efficient so why would we waste our money thinking we're smarter than honda and screwing with vtec timing? (vtec controller/ecu/the cams mentioned above) it boggles my mind.

Re: GS-R power?

well, cuz some racers launch their car above the RPMS when VTEC engages. so a cam without 3 lobes will take less energy to get them, spinning cuz they will be lighter, thats the benefit of it I see, but none at all for a daily driver.

and on my GSR it is just about 6k.

when vtec kicks in 1st gear it makes me smile EVERY time, I havent even been able to get on it from a dead stoip through 3rd yet because of the congestion on the east coast. on the test drive I got to open it up in 1st and second but not at the same time, mobbed through first and when I shifted I had to slow down a bit for a corner/bump and then mobbed through 2nd and shifted to 3rd just to make sure the synchros were good for those gears still and they were so I slowed down since Id already seen a few cops in a few minutes.

one of the first things Im geting is a VAFC so I can set the HI-LO down at 5k so even if I shift a bit early it stays in vtec for sure. I might not need it once I have a straight run to test it on but I am gonna have to wait a while for that. plus dont wanna til I check a few things out.
