GS-R power?

Ok, so my one manager's son has a type-r for real (he bought it himself, which makes it better, since he's only 18) and I was wondering what the first step down from an ITR is, over here in the states. Is it the GS-R? What kind of power is that motor putting out? Hp, torque? Is there anything more powerful than a gsr, but easier to find than an ITR?

Thanks in advance!

The next step down from a ITR, is a GSR, at least in the U.S. I have a 1998 Integra GSR (green as seen below heh) Basically it has the b18c1 engine, where the ITR has the b18c5 engine. The GSR's engine (b18c1) puts out 170 hp and about 128 lbs/ft of torque. The ITR engine (b18c5) puts out a whopping 195 hp and 130 lbs/ft of torque. It is significantly faster, but a GSR is just as fun in my opinion. You will get the thrill of incredible vtec as you hit 5,500 rmps and the feeling is further elated as you proceed to the 8,200 rpm redline (it gets really nasty around 6k). I have an AEM cold air intake and man, I love the sound! When I hit vtec people know. My car is much faster than my friend's 2000 Mustang v6, beating him in any sort of race (from a stop, from a 20 mph roll, and totally raping him at a 70mph drop). And the handling is simply amazing. The type R is going to have better handling, but I can't even imagine it the way my GSR is. Stock suspension is a work of art. The car rolls just enough so that it has give and won't break traction on a curve, but it's not as exaggerated as most domestic suspensions (rolling rolling rolling) If you can find a type R go for it, but I was looking for one, and I was looking for a year! So I settled on a GSR and I'm quite happy. Goodluck with the search! Keep us posted.

p.s- If you want further info, just pm me or reply, I'll be watching.

Re: GS-R power?

The price is significantly different between the ITR and GSR... GSR is fairly fast (170hp 128ft/lb) but the GSR is more of a "luxury" car, leather interior, sunroof, etc. pepsihatman, your vtec kicks in at 5500? mine is usually around 4400. weird? while the ITR is definitely a "sporty" car. i own a GSR and love it... (dont leave out the LS, it has a lot of potential as well)

I always thought that vtec was engaged at 5,500 rpms, at least I thought it was when the cams shifted to their aggressive lobes. I could be wrong though. I definatly feel power after 4k though, but it's significant at 5,500, then at 6,000 it really gets nasty for me.

Re: GS-R power?

^^^^ you sir are a fool, first of all its VTEC, no hypen no line just VTEC, second of all, the agressive lobes on the cam do in fact "turn on" so to speak at 4400 rpms, its the secondary runners in the intake that opens at 5500 RPMs, which is what every one confusses for actual VTEC, you really need to do some more research before you post wrong information

Re: GS-R power?

ok,. havent driven a GSR but have driven a few things with a B16 in it, and one even has the custom VTEC light in the dash so I know when it kicked in and it was just about 5700-6k, guage isnt very big, revs very fast up there and I had to watch the road so I dont know exact. GSR's might be way lower. But I didnt think it was 4400, I always though it was more around the mid 5k mark somewhere. but ive heard so many different nunmbers I dont know who to believe, Ive heard 5850, 5600, 5200, etc....

Re: GS-R power?

well i own and drive a GSR on a daily basis, the cam aspect of VTEC kicks in at 44-4500 RPM, the secondaries of the intake open at 5500 RPM.

im not blatantly saying you mean what I think you mean so if not my mistake but you mention the civic SI with I-VTEC, and I mentioned the B16 so I think you might be confused, the B16 is in the 99-00 SI's and some del sols and lots of hondas not in the US. and they are not I-VTEC, standard DOHC vtev just liek the B18C. because your post is the first mention of the new SI's and no mention of the K20's in here yet either.

i'm almost positive that "vtec" engages at 5900 rpm on most B-series motors. So i'm gonna have to go with what 94tegrs said.

Re: GS-R power?

I was asking whether they're great cars or not, but thanks for all the VTEC info!

Thanks!
