2001 gt wont accelerate after 4000 rpms

Hello I have a 2001 GT The car runs perfect under normal driving conditions but if you try to floor the gas to pass or take off fast it will run up to 4000 RPMS and wont shift or gain any speed. I had it on the computer and misfire is all that comes back on it. The service light is not on. The wires,plugs,and fuel filter has been changed but no help. Can somebody please help!!!!!!!!!!

i got this same prob on a 02 gpgt my only difference is i also got a po440 code are the emission control devices still covered under the 80k ? its like the trans wont up shift till you let off of it ??? ive done nothing cept drive this one no repairs what so ever

Here is a little bit about the P0440 code.

Could be something as easy as a bad seal for the gas cap and may need to replace it,since it can also set that same code.

Id also start checking for vacuum leaks,since it wount shift untill you let off the gas.

Question: Do you smell any gas while you are driving, especially when stopped at a light? If so, it's a bad solenoid not clearing out excess fuel vapor properly.

I just looked under the hood and noticed that the location of these solenoids is back around near the supercharger....it's a plug & play part.
There is a sticker on the undersided of the hood outlining the location of these solenoids.
The location may be a little different if you don't have a GTP...but still check under the hood and you should have a emissions sticker that will show you the vacumm routing which will help.

The evaporative leak detection diagnostic strategy is based on applying vacuum to the EVAP system and monitoring vacuum decay. The PCM monitors vacuum level via the Fuel Tank Pressure sensor input. At an appropriate time, the EVAP purge valve and the EVAP canister vent valve are turned ON, allowing engine vacuum to draw a small vacuum on the entire evaporative emission system. If a sufficient vacuum level cannot be achieved, a large leak or a malfunctioning EVAP purge valve is indicated. This can be caused by the following conditions:



Disconnected or malfunctioning fuel tank pressure sensor.
Missing or malfunctioning fuel cap.
Disconnected, damaged, pinched, or blocked EVAP purge line.
Disconnected or damaged EVAP canister vent hose.
Disconnected, damaged, pinched, or blocked fuel tank vapor line.
Disconnected or malfunctioning EVAP purge valve.
Disconnected or malfunctioning EVAP canister vent valve.
Open ignition feed circuit to the EVAP canister vent or purge valve.
Damaged evaporative emissions canister.
Leaking fuel sender assembly O-ring.
Leaking fuel tank or fuel tiller neck Any of the above conditions can set DTC P0440.
CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC



No VSS, TP sensor, HO2S, Misfire, IAT sensor, MAP sensor, Fuel Trim, Fuel Injector(s), EGR Pintle Position, ECT, or MAF sensor DTC(s) set.
Start up engine coolant temperature is between 4°C and 30°C (40°F and 86°F).
Start up intake air temperature is between 4°C and 30°C (40°F and 86°F).
Fuel tank fuel level is between 15% and 85%.
BARO is greater than 75 kPa.
System voltage is between 8 and 16 volts.

Below is a picture of the GM "Enhanced" evap system used on the newer cars. There's a vent solenoid on the evap canister that could be your problem, too.

thx. does it sound like these 2 problems my be interconnected? im sending it 2 dealer 2morrow for warranty im just curious on wether this is both the same prob??? the no shft or power at 4k is really buggin me and ive just found out by she who must be obeyed that it may have been doing this for a while!???

2 update yall the dealer told me the cat was bad and this seems 2 be a problem for alot o gms?i dont know but its under the 80k emmissions warranty so thats good thanks for your insight .they also want me 2 get thier 149$$ tune up wif SPECIAL PLATINUM PLUGS lol i pity them boys

what am i missing Pontiac grand prix have an 80k emissions warranty?

The standard GM Warranty on a CAT convertor and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is 8 years or 80K miles, whichever, comes first. Which is a limted emissions control warranty.

For 2001 - 2002 Grand Prixs it is 10 years or 120K miles on the CAT convertor only. It was extended due to the delivery of flaky CATs on those year models. The PCM is only covered until 8yrs/80K miles.
