Angry Emissions workshop

Hey guys, I have a 2000 1.8T passat and I keep getting this emissions workshop on my obd. Started at 45,000 miles and after major service came right back next day. Anyone with any clues as to why this light keeps poppin up?

I have a 2000 passat glx and I have had the emissions workshop (check engine) on since I had the car. Every time I bring it to the dealer it is either the evaporative canister, some type of check valve or something else. They replace parts and within a month the light is back on. I now have 110k on the car and I just ignore it. Unfortunately I will have to pass inspection soon....

Emissions Workship Light

I am now on a crusade concerning this problem.

Long story short: I took my 2000 V6 Passat into the local dealer for recall work. It solved the emissions workshop problem. Unfortunately, I do not recall the actual work. ..I think it had something to do with air intake or something. Anyway, they looked into it, found the recall, and did it for FREEEEE.

Many posts mention the MAF (Mass airflow indicator), and I would avoid this as a first step, due to $$$$.

Did you ever find out how the mechanic fixed the "emissions workshop" problem ? I have a 2000 passat with 70K and I have had the problem for at least 20K miles...

I have a 2000 Passat V6 with Emission Workshop and error code P1296. Do you know what this means?

Its a code for a cooling system malfunction. Do you notice the car doesn't warm up to proper operating temp, like a stuck open thermostat? You might need to check it with a scanner that can read the data stream & watch the temp reading from the coolant temp sensor. It is the same unit that reads temp for the gauge in the dash, but a different part of the unit sends a measurement to the car's computer. Even if the gauge reads correct it may be giving a different reading to the ECM.

this is a very common problem the coolant temperature sensor needs replaced

Thanks for the reply. The gage reads normal opperating temperature. I will replace the sensor and see what happens. Otherwise, the car runs fine.

the gausge reads normal because it is dual sensor the sensor for the gauge is not failing but the one that sends a signal to the ecm for the current coolant temperature is failing. i bet i replace at least two of these sensors a week for this problem.

I am getting the Emissions workshop Check light on from the past 20 days. I yet to go to the dealer. I called them up and was told that it will cause 92 $ for diagnosis. However, I took for free engine check with some local otughy dealer and was told that it has two problem codes P1120 and P0154.
P1120 - MFT Ctrlled Fuel and Air Metering
P0154 - 02 Sensor B2S1 Circuit Inactive

Is this a big problem. Should go to a dealer and get a fix immediately or can I take it for long drives. I am planning for vacation where I will put atleast 600 miles over the weekend. Please advice.

May be bleedvw will help me understand how critical are these error codes are? Is it ok to drive or not.
