Post drum won't go back on

I recently Changed the rear drum brakes on my car. I adjusted the right break as far as it will go, and I have to force the drum back on. The tire is hard to turn. Any suggestions. The caliper looks good.

Recheck your work. Make sure all the hardware is on right. The bar that goes across the shoes should sit in their respective groves. Bring the adjustment all the way down. Sand the rim of the drum with a rough sandpaper. After you install the drum, step on the brake pedal a couple of times and then recheck the drum rotation. Good luck.

If you literally had to force the drums back on, then it is apparent that you have the brakes adjusted to tight which will obviously cause the wheel to be hard to turn. Loosen the brakes back up, to adjust the rear brakes you should adjust until you can just hear/notice the brakes scrubbing the drum while you turn the drum. If yours is the style that has no external adjuster, you will have to adjust a little and reinstall the drum several times until it feels right.

Make sure that the parking brake is completely off. This can cause your drums not to go in without force. Also check how you reassembled your parts. You can use the other side as a reference.

Re: drum won't go back on

Did you have to drums turned (smoothed out) if so, check to make sure there is not a lip around the inner part that would be facing the other drum. you might have to adjust them in all the way just to get it on and manually adjust them from the outside, check for a ruber gromet or a metal knock out.
