Re: Rebuild of: 1/20 Ferrari F310B (* Progress Pics *)
Hi Tech decals, when applied correctly have no carrier film around the edges so they look more painted on. To apply them you first follow much the same proceedure as normal decals (but they are much more fragile), then when dry carefully remove the carrier film with tape. Sounds great but has some compromises, for instance they are usually much thicker than conventional decals and the failure rate getting them in the right place can be fairly high

I'm sure this will be another good model from you Nuno.
I used some high tech decals from S27 and from Museum Collection, the S27's are easy to work with but the Museum's needs attention. Regards, Teles. Last edited by Marcelo Teles; 08-24-2004 at 08:58 PM. |

Here goes a new picture of the actual status of this rebuild project.
![]() The body received a clear coat and then waited for 3 days to be polished and waxed. Both wings are painted and glued and I just need to place the decals. I’m currently working on the deflectors and their supports. |

Those rear wing extensions turned out great. Are you using PE parts for the barge boards too?

The PE parts I’m using on this project are: the radiators mesh (they look great), all four deflectors with their supports, fuel valve, mirrors, front wing end plates and the low down force rear wing version, including an extra rear flap. |

Barge boards are the things between the wheels and sidepods. I think you refer to them as deflectors. All the teams started using them in 1994 after the vortex generators on the front wings were banned. Although teams like Lotus, McLaren and Benetton had experimented with them earlier.
The version you've built is the higher downforce setup. This configuratiin was used for the slow tracks like Monaco and Jerez. High speed tracks like Monza and Spa didn't use the winglets in front of the rear wheels. |

Yes.
This will be a replica of the car used in the Brazilian GP as shown in the photo but with the fuel valve on the other side. Here we can clearly see the extra flap on the rear wing. ![]() The PE parts come with the option to switch the fuel valve from right to left but since the body was already painted and with decals when I purchased the PE parts and decided to do the low down force version there was nothing else to do. Luckily the car was used in this same configuration but with the fuel valve in the right side in Interlagos so I can do a perfect replica. Other change to have in mind for those how’d like to build this car is the GoodYear decals on both wings. During the beginning of the season until the German GP they were white. Then they were changed to yellow ones until the end of the season. |

That pic is from Monaco I think. Interlagos wouldn't have needed as much downforce as that. Are the square front wing endplates right for Interlagos? I suspect they probably are.
Fuel valve would be on the driver's left for Interlagos so your model is perfect there. Wait - I think the engine intake might have been different in the earlier races like Brazil. Flatter, without the slight protrusion above the head rest. |

Yes Phil, this picture is from Monaco, it’s just one example since I didn’t found any good picture from Interlagos. In Brazil Ferrari used the low down force wing.
But then I realized that you are totally right about the engine intake. This version was first used in the Canadian GP. I was starting to despair but after some research I found a perfect match. The Europe GP raced in Jerez (the Schumacher–Villeneuve contact one) the last race of the season. We have the low down force wing, the slick tires, tobacco publicity, correct engine intake and fuel valve on the left side of the pilot. Hufffffff. ![]() I only need to replace the white Good Year decals for the yellow ones since they are already applied.

This one is (finally) near to its conclusion.
These final Marlboro decals were extremely easy to place. I think I’m finally getting used to the High-Tech decals. ![]() I hope to take some outdoor photos soon. I had some small problems with the deflectors supports (they are very fragile) and the engine cover don’t close to well. Apart from that it’s a great model. |

Glad to hear you've figured out the hi-tech decals Nuno, they do take some getting used to. Your F310B is looking great.
