I did notice that I was sketching better using my entire forearm and laying down more confident lines.

About the shading keep you shading strokes close together. Don't leave white paper between the lead marks from your pencil.

al, i like your sig quote about the tunnel rats.

it is good to see you're adopting more and more the arm thing. after a while, you will not know how you didn't use it all of the time.

The arm thing? Do you mean moving my arm a lot more instead of my wrist? If so I do that all the time with my sketches.
