The openings in your front bumper should be as dark as the wheel well. In you ref. picture, they are the same darkness. Use that as your darkest value, and everything else should be lighter than it. It'l give you an idea of how dark everything should be.

Re: HKS D1GP Nissan Silvia S15
start by cleaning up a lot of your lines in the front fascia. define more of the form through line. then build up the shading on a solid foundation drawing. you're a bit hazy-looking right now. and too shaky, nervous.
when doing free-hand technique, as you seem to be doing, place the paper to where you can use the edge of the table itself, with your hand, as guide. this is perfectly legal. and it will clean up all the shaky lines in the intercooler and elsewhere. when making shorter strokes, like in the intercooler or base lines for the headlamps, use the same idea of *entire arm* but make short, confident bursts with your forearm, with the elbow as the fulcrum. broad sweeps use entire arm with shoulder. this is not a "wrist" action. that is a bullshit myth for unaware people. again: use your entire arm to follow-through with the motion. draw before and past the actual length of contact with the paper. like a golf stroke or pool-cue stroke. drawing is the same. learn this technical skill, one of many elements of skill, and this will build your muscle-memory and rehabilitate your physiology to become a drawing instrument itself. this will build speed up over time. but you CANNOT short-cut to speed. you cannot. it must be at your own rate. and this must dovetail seamlessly with accuracy. it is like shooting a bullet out of a gun when you become farther advanced. you are on a good track. |

Re: HKS D1GP Nissan Silvia S15
by the way, i was at the D1GP at Irwindale, CA. i saw that car in the pits area after the event. if you've never been to a drift event, GO to one. you will be hooked.

thx for the tips bonzelite, yea i saw the D1GP at Irwindale, CA, i was visiting my dad and we went to it, it was soooooo sweet, i love drawing drift cars, mostly the ones i dont get to see often stateside, like silvia s15's and skylines. but u gotta have the love for the AE87 too, and we cannot forget my favorite, since ive got one
FD3S 3rd generation RX-7 Rotary performance at it's finest. *Bows down to his baby, then hops in to goto 7-11 need a slurpee at 1:30 am* lol, i'll work on this some more tomorrow im off to bed when i get home.

Re: HKS D1GP Nissan Silvia S15
AE86/Trueno. you were having RX-7 on your mind too much! (AE87--lol
)the hatch is more commonly seen, but i have seen the coupes. those are very cool. AE86 Corollas are lethal machines. they are hard to beat if the driver is living up to, beyond, the machine's potential. |

Re: HKS D1GP Nissan Silvia S15
i know who you were rooting for: the FD3S king Youichi Imamura -493 hp 3rd gen. i love those, too.
he had the loudest car there. and the most powerful. Kazama won, though! yes!! nismo S15!! Kei-office. i got his autograph on my program after he went into the pit area. the car you're drawing is Nobuteru Taniguchi's HKS Silvia S15. 444 hp. he is also a JGTC competitor. |
