Re: 16 years old looking to buy car..NEED ADVICE!!!!

ya or you could try and find either a 240SE, which has the S-13 shaped back and by a JDM S-13 conversation clip. Then It would look like an S-13. OR a 240SX, which was built after the S-14 model Silvia

Re: 16 years old looking to buy car..NEED ADVICE!!!!

You're 16 and you want to get a RWD car and drift with it? Heres my advice:

1. Get an FF and learn to drive. Its a sad truth that most people in the world just cannot admit that they cannot drive. They may be able to get from point A to B without hitting someone else's car but they wouldnt have full control of a car at the limit in a critical situation.

2. After you're a good enough daily driver, try a driving school like Evolution or Skip Barber. Then go to your local SOLO II AutoX events every weekend and after racing for a couple months and learning to control a car like your hands and feet, THEN get a RWD car.

Most underaged or novice drivers jump into a RWD sports car filled with dillusions of grandeur from their Initial D fantasies and end up loosing control of the car and could kill someone.

Also, STAY AWAY FROM THE MR2 or any other MR cars. Lift-throttle snap oversteer happens to even the most experienced drivers and you just might end up hurting someone.

Re: 16 years old looking to buy car..NEED ADVICE!!!!

Lachean is definatly right, if you want to have any hopes of learning to drift you need to learn how to DRIVE first hehe, drifting is more than driving really fast and making your backend slide around. Go manual FF under $1000 is my advice for your first car.

Re: 16 years old looking to buy car..NEED ADVICE!!!!

Other than the drifting part, i always keep hearing that FR cars are sometimes easier to steer than FF cars. The whole wieght distribution thing and all.... is an FF really easier to drive than an FR?

Re: 16 years old looking to buy car..NEED ADVICE!!!!

ya or even a manu-matic where you can make the car shift....course it doesnt' work as well, but I do know some people who have made it work. lol
but to answer your question. It depends on your preferance, personally I think that FF cars are eaiser to drive because you don't need to turn the wheel as much to make the car respond, but of course there is the universal challenge with FF, understeer. I would agree with what is say above, go FF in SOME car before learning to drift. Learning to drive well first is cruital

Re: 16 years old looking to buy car..NEED ADVICE!!!!

hey hoju, where exactly can u get a 97 prelude for only $8000 that doesnt seam right i am from alberta and u cant get a single 97 for anywhere under $13000, but what i recomend u get is a 1988-1991 honda prelude, (i would recomend a 90 or 91 SR rather then a Si) the 88-91 prelude has a less powerful engine but you would notice it can still compete with a 97 because of its lighter body, and its still a really sweat lookin ride that u can get a 88 or 89 for a low as $2000 and a 90 or 91 for as low as $4000 can. (depending on condition) plus this is a very good car to start on if u want to drift. (it teaches u control) it may be a ff but u can still drift this prelude fairly well using left foot braking technique, thats how i have been drifting i aint that good yet but i am getting better.

i also found a awsome body kit for the 88-91 prelude check it out at http://www.andysautosport.com/honda/88_91prelude.html

i bought this same kit for my 90 SR and it looks awesome.

and if ur lookin for a bit extra power u can buy a imported straight from japan 97+ prelude H22A for another $2300 can. and then it would be even faster then ur 97 but still in buget
check that at totaljdm.com

lol....thanx for the advice man.... i didn't think anyone would still reply to this.... i was thinking of the old school ludes....but over the last few months, my interests went thorugh a wide variety of changes.... after my whole 97 lude faze, i started noticing the 240sx's of the early 90's....then i discovered the beuty of the 95 240's, but then i read up on 240's in canadian winters and apparently theres no system that can help them in the snow....soo....not wanting to crash my car and wind up in a ditch somewhere.... i was thinking....ok.... if i'm gonna get a car...it has to be FF cause i don't wanna screw up in the snow...... thats when i had to make a choice between eagle talons and celica's from the early 90's ..... and now....for my final decision...... I am going to buy a 1994 celica gt-s.... yah...i know....it's weak as hell..... but i realize that i don't need to drift.....right now. GT-S is appealing i guess cause apparently it has really good handling.... and i mean....i'm not gonna drag race anyone sooo.....oh yah...and it looks KOOOLLLL..... i know some of you who helped me might now agree with this decision....but i would just like to say.... Thank you to everyone who have helped me in this thread.,.... i have taken into consideration EVERYTHING you guys have told me..... again....THANK YOU

Your Buddy hoju
