Re: SOHV to SRT-4

Well yea, there is other ways to make them fast, but just putting headers, intake, exhaust and stuff won't make it too much faster, and nos will tear up an engine, and that's only temporary hp. Turbo is there all the time.

Re: SOHV to SRT-4

Yea, nos is cheating as far as I'm concerned. bottle rocket cars. who needs um. Look up your local junk yard. You might be able to find an engine there. Look for a stratus. As far as the tranny goes, I think it all lines up...... Is your current car manual?

Re: SOHV to SRT-4

Modern performance.com has 2.0l turbo kits for under 3g's and if you're a neon coupe then you'll be lighter. do another 6g's in add ons and you'll eat srt-4's

Re: SOHV to SRT-4

Actually a turbo decreases smog. Think about it. Increased air flow burns more of the gas that goes in the engine. That means that less bad stuff in the exhaust. If you don't believe me, the srt-4 is rated like around 1.9 in emissions, where most other cars are much higher. I don't remember the exact numbers, or where to find it, but I do know the srt-4 is one of the better cars emissions-wise. Yea you have lag, but there is ways to compensate for it. Udp, headers, intake, exhaust, motor mounts, Espically an upgraded exhaust helps with turbo lag. Less back pressure in the exhaust, the less lag. That's one of the reasons the srt-4 has no mufflers. The oil problems are easily fixed by rigging up a catch can between the pcv and cold side of the turbo. Cheap to depending on where you get the parts. Also it's all in personnal perferance. Anyway, you take a stock 2.4 with no turbo, the usual cai, exhaust, udp, all that stuff, with nos, and race a turbo with bov, udp, intake, exhaust, I'm sorry to say, the turbo will win, or be damn close to it unless you are standing on your nos button. But anyway, technochris1, You want to do a manual swap. Get away from automatic as soon as possible. Automatic sucks for power. A manual will beat out an auto of the same car every time. Regardless of driver. For a turbo kit, run a search with mopar and turbo in the search and you will find all kinds of shit. It's not going to be cheap though. Good luck!

Re: SOHV to SRT-4

You could pick up an engine at a junkyard for a couple hundred. Have you done any searching at all? There is a shit load of sites that have prices on turbo kits, trans swap kits, 2.4l engines. I hope you didn't come on here and expect everyone to do your foot work for you. Do some searching, find it, and do it.

Re: SOHV to SRT-4

Sorry man. I didn't mean to sound so harsh on my last post. As far as your neonparts, go to http://www.neonparts.net/rage.html#ragemountpackage scroll almost all the way down. Look for RAGE 2.4 Motor Swap Mount Kit. It looks to be pretty complete to me. As far as the wiring harness goes, I believe the original will work. The kit that I am directing you to is only the motor mounts, wiring instructions and a upgraded fuel system if you opt for it. Find a local junkyard or order a crate engine for the engine.

Re: SOHV to SRT-4

About the tranny, if you go to a junkyard for the engine, pull a tranny from a manual first gen neon. The stratus engine and neon transmission line up.

first of neons and engine swaps are not easy you wont have to cut up the bay bt its still not easy. The best trans for turbo first gens is the 3.55 which comes on the sohc the 3.94 has short gears. The trans from your first gen will mount to the stratus/pt/caravan engine(and all the other 2.4 blocks)

2.4 block
SRT internals
mount kit
underdrive pulley
big ass injectors
mega squirt
stage 3 cluth
stage 3 axels
srt cams
srt head
crane springs
mopar oversized valves
aem cam gears
mls head gasket
srt tensioner setup
walbro fuel pump
crane or msd ignition
turbo manifold
t4/t3 ball bearing turbo
3" exhuast all the way through
oil feed
oil return
dohc computer
wide band o2

and alot of of time, infact thats the hardest thing to find
