Re: Revelations and the End of the World?

only reason I asked is cuz I couldn't find the thread... and because I said when you prove it wrong, not that I had to prove it, you had to disprove it, which you can't, so my car stays with me unless your buying it

Re: Revelations and the End of the World?

well, just for shits and grins.

Quote:
Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
thats along time to withstand the damages of a fishes stomach acids.

Quote:
And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
how did it do that, i mean, thats one hell of aprojectile vomit, unless the fish managed to get close enough to shore (which big fish dont) to get jonah on the shore.

anyway, theres my five minute attempt to disprove jonah and the whale

Yeah, I have one... Why didn't god come down to speak rather than having other people speak for him? Furthermore... what gives you the right to say what god can and cannot do? Not like I can tell you what you can and cannot do or the other way around for we as humans have free will. Without that quality we would not exist in physical presence thus why my argument heads toward god never exhisted in the first place but only lives in the minds of those who choose to believe in him.

Have fun with that.

Re: Revelations and the End of the World?

From what I understand God did not come face to face with man because his glory would be too intense. Look what happened to Moses just looking into the burning bush/tree.
I don't think Soyo was telling God what he could or could not do. He was saying God has the ability to do anything.

Re: Revelations and the End of the World?

exactly, read about the holy of holys and how only the high priest could go in to the room where God was, and if he was not pure he would die immediately, so if God came to earth and showed himself to everyone then we'd have a VERY small population.

and no I wasn't telling God what to do or not to do, simply like DGB said, I said if he wants to he can do it, doesn't matter what it is

and acctually God did come himself when he sent his son, because its the trinity, 3 as one, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.. but thats a totally different subject

Re: Revelations and the End of the World?

well, now soyo, your back to having to prove the existence of God, which we could go round and rround about for days. I'll actually give you an arguemtn for how the jonah story could have happened without god.

first, you have to understand that the sperm whale is the only sea going creature with a throat large enough to swallow a grown man whole. now, sperm whales arent exactly known to go frequenting the mediteranean (forgive my butchering of that spelling) but, it is possible that in searching for warm waters in which to breed a sperm whale could have gotten into the sea, it is possible, especially considering that apparently, that long ago, the seas were a little warmer over all anyway...dont know for sure, im not an expert.

now, jonah gets tossed over board and swalloed by this sperm whale who mistakes him for food, and sits in the belly for three days. apparently sperm whales have an incredably slow metabolism, so this is actually possible. jonah would have suffered mild burns and a bleaching of the skin, but thats about it.

now, the regurgatation part is whats interesting. apparently when sperm whales are dying, they have a tendency to regurgate the contents of their stomach. so this whale gets beached because its not used to the shallows of the mediteranean and starts to die, throws up, and jonah is saved.

bam! the existentialist provides a real world (albiet very unlikely) explination to the jonah story that doesnt involve god working miracles.

Re: Revelations and the End of the World?

what about david and the starving lions? walking on water, splitting the sea turning the what is now called "red sea" into blood. now at the same time i can't prove any of this stuff happend and niether can any of you prove it didn't so this is kinda pointless.
but on another subject have you heard about the guy claiming he thinks he's found noahs ark?
