it could be a speed sensor or the computer. most likely the computer. i had this problem with a cavalier.

I am having the same problem. I have replaced the speed sensor on the top of the transmission, but that did not do any good. I have notived that if I drive through a deep puddle everything will work fine for about 10 miles. My question is, is there a wheel speed sensor in the wheel assembly? I know there is a plug behind the hub. Thanks for any help.

Re: wont shift and speedo says 0 miles per hour

the plug behind your hub should be the wheel speed sensor for the ABS. system

I'm not sure, but if your shift lever is on the steering column, something inside it might be broken. Is it tilt wheel? Tilt wheel column's have a tendency to have the thin metal bars break in them, especially on GM's. My suggestion, would be to buy a new Steering Column and replace your old one. I highly doubt that a computer is the source of your problems either, its most definatly some minor mechanical thing, that will be a bitch to fix or replace. Thats what I'm going to have to do in mine, because it wont shift out of park either.... Does anyone know any cheap ways to nigger rig it up so you can shift it?

Re: wont shift and speedo says 0 miles per hour

sounds like a bad connection at the speed sensor plug, when it gets wet the water bridges the gap and lets the current flow through the connector

Re: wont shift and speedo says 0 miles per hour

I checked the plugs themselves, and they seem fine. It must be something outside of the engine compartment because the water "bridging the gap" was not inside the compartment. I may need to investigate more.
