Hehe, no sweat

To please everyone, a picture to compare :

PS : I still have to start working at the Gulf Porsche of 1970...

More vintage racers... and of such incredible caliber! That is just an amazing model. I can't beleive that it was made, I think you have a shrinking machine somewhere that you're hiding from us.

Great build! I know the Fisher kits dont have a lot of detail, but you have done a great job in making this one realistic. Are the verticle fins angled outward at the rear? Maybe its just the picture angle. This may be a dumb question, but why would the gas filler caps be safety wired?

I did a lot of research on this car, since there is nearly nothing available about this particular Ferrari. How come? Well, the car was built exclusively for the 1970 Le Mans 24 hours, so it never ran another race before that day. And after 11 hours, Jackie Ickx crashed the car, killing a marshall in the crash. The car was never restaured. In those days they simply threw away the parts, or they were destroyed.

So if you find a picture of this car it is very rare. Furthermore, you have to be very careful if you find a picture of a Ferrari 512S with number 5, because the filmmakers of the movie "Le Mans" with and by Steve McQueen had to rebuild a Ferrari-lookalike for this number 5 car, to shoot the sequences after the actual race, in the 2 months following the real race. Those pictures may seem like the actual car, but the cars were not identical!

I have searched long and thourougly to find good picture, I even bought a $70 book about the 512S&M, where I found exactly 1 good picture about this car. So I think I'm entitled to say that I did a deep research of the car.

Now, as for the questions you ask : I copied everything you see from the pics I have. Yes, the verticle fins ARE angled outward at the rear as they should be, and the gas filler caps are safety wired. Probably because they didn't want them to fly away during the race...

To prove my point, I enclose 2 pictures that confirm my statement
