Re: Skylines???

For info, all of the top Japanese sportscars including the GT-R are in effect either de-tuned or 'miss quoted' to 280Bhp due to the (recently cancelled I believe) 'gentlemens' agreement. Although many do actually produce slightly more than that. This is one factor in making many of these cars so tunable.

The max power allowed from a normal production car is 280Bhp. The max speed is also limited to 180Kph on all new Japanese market cars believe it or not. Hitting my Supras limiter racing a bloody escort soon convinced me to change that!

This is why so many cars are listed with around 280, Evo, STI, RX7, GT-R, 22b and so on.

stock though its an average daily driver car with a sports car soul. i hate people who think that the skylines are the fastest cars in the world stock (yes there are people this ignorant). this is mostly due to the fast and the furious.

although i would not be comparing this car to a ferrari on the road, ferrari's are exotics, this is a sporst car. with only 280 stock hp any ferrari can match or over power this car easily.

to sum it all up this car is an aggresive looking car with POTENTIAL. it may not be popular for this among people who are un-knowledgable about cars, but its how it made this car get popular to people who know tunning, and the tunners made it popular to the every day person.
agreed.

i reackon its only special in the fact that it can be tuned to produce sooo much power, also its the same as any other car it still uses pistons, thats y i think rx-7's and rx-8 are special, because they run under a completely different engine

ROTARY ALL THA WAY!!!!

Re: Skylines???

280bhp is the gentlemens agreement. It's shaky to swear by that number.

Then again, any Skyline owner in the US isn't going to have a stock GT-R. Slight mods will puke out HP.

Re: Skylines???

Yea, the gentlemens agreement. Like the Stingray vette it claimed like 380 hp (bare with me if I'm wrong), and dynoed a little over 500 or 450. If I had a GTR WITH a budget I'd have higher flow filters, maybe a fuel pump and rail upgrade. Not much...also, maybe two larger turbos. That'd be it for me.

that whole thing was

some real inconsistancy in your thinking..

the turbo doesn't allow for more power without doing heavy mods. Its the RB26 block itself. they major engine components are bulletproof. turbo be damned, the stock block has held upwards of FIFTEEN HUNDRED HORSEPOWER without blowing up.

the stock turbo's themselves are good for about 450-550HP? someone correct me if Im wrong on that figure, I don't remember (nis.k.a. care to stab at that?). the compressors house ceramic turbine blades which can break off and get inhaled by the engine. If they are pushed past there recommended psi for a given amt. of time... BOOM.

average daily driver? since when did your camry or civic have 4-wheel steering? or even 4WD for that matter? this is as exotic as a Ferrari. the car retailed for over $90K. definately supercar catagory pricing. Now in Japan... maybe the locals don't swoon over the car, but Italians don't generally swoon over Ferrari's in Italy either. its different when you talk in terms of domestic market.

No. they are both GT cars. Grand touring cars.
Best motoring (cannot remember which volume) had the NISMO R34 GTR against a slew of "exotics". the 360 modena being one of them. also the NSX type-R was included. the Skyline edged out every car except the porsche 911 turbo. the skyline couldn't pass but obviously had the edge on the porsche, given another lap Skyline would surely have taken 1st place. In the porsche's defense, its tires were worn down more-so then the skylines. the 360 modena was BEHIND the skyline. now this GTR is the NISMO version rated around 400HP. anotherwords the car has been LIGHTLY tuned. gobs of potential left.

this isn't some faux ricermobile econobox hoisted to glory based on the fast and furious. I said it and will say it again... every car manufacturer that competed in GT racing (your precious Ferrari, Mclaren, Lambo, EVERYONE) ADMITTED they couldn't surpass the skyline's infinate potential. Nissan DOMINATED GT racing with the skyline.

...You musn't love it that much! that to me is particularly special.

That should have been the last comment in this thread. Except blueboost's response to weaponCIVIC (what an ironic name, considering) was necessary. So, one more time in case anyone missed what it is that makes the Skyline so special:

Re: Skylines???

Your approximation of the stock ceramics are correct. Low 500's with new injectors would be pushing it. Nismo uses on-ceramic turbos for the N1 RB26....among other goodies.

A little history on the R32. During the R32 development, it set a production car record at Nurburgring beating the previous record lap by 25 seconds. In FIA Group N the R32 won 3 straight years and 29 races in a row. Finally it was banned in Australia after attempts to slow it were unsuccessful (160kg/350lbs. of ballast/added weight and boost down to 19psi).

The R32 remains the smallest and lightest of the 3 but technology has made the Skyline handle better (R34).
