Skylines???

Whats the dealeo? Why the attraction? Every other thread I look at is a Skyline this R type or whatever or the other 648GT643 type...you get my drift. Whats the mystic surrounding this car? I love touring car racing especially the BTC but wy so many Skylines? I see the point when i look at NISMOS Xanavi R34 model, but all the road style cars coming from everyone ...what ups? Don't get me wrong there are some awesome builds, it's the subject manner I'm asking about.

Re: Skylines???

It is one of the best all-around sports car in the world. Plus the models available to us are pretty nice as well....and since Nissan's are awesome I see nothing wrong.

But one of the biggest reasons is because a lot of people like Skylines. As Tonio so elequently puts it "build for yourself, no one else matters!"

BTW Everyone who reads this. Be on the look out for my Supra and Z-Tune R34 Skyline.

Re: Skylines???

Yes I agree Nissans are awesome ..I bought the first (real car) of the new model 240Z as soon as they came out. There are so many after market add ons for Skyline kits (SAS) so I guess that makes people want to build Skylines even more. Just so many awesome builds of the same subject matter brought me to thinking what the heck is with a Skyline??? Funny thing is I remember reading in R&T back in the 80's when the Maxima was coming out and the new 240 was somewhere in between being released there was this wicked new sedan from Japan called the Skyline..we all wanted one. Now I'm into modeling some 15 years later and it's all the rage,

Re: Skylines???

well i like skylines for their looks and power.
but i like rx-7s for the looks and tha rotary engine!

if i had a choice between an rx-7(FC or FD) or a gtr........ i got for a rx-7... but if it where a 4 door 34 gt-t....... i may go with that

Re: Skylines???

It just reflects the preference of many AF members. No body forced them to build the Skyline.
If you go to other boards, all they talk about are either NASCAR, muscle car, rally car or drag racer.
It's just that the Skyline is one of many charismatic automobiles, and it's popular among many modelers. Plain and simple.

Re: Skylines???

I remember I was surprised too, when I came here for the firsts times, by the amount of skylines... But I felt nothing wrong. I must admit that in the same time I discovered JGTC and felt in love with the fabulous 2003 Calsonic GTR... (You can imagine how happy I've been when Tamiya has realeased its kit a few months later!...) Coming back to the topic, thanks to AF and its members for having made me discover the car, as it's not imported here in Europe...
But appart from the quality of the car itself, there are many reasons why skylines are popular in 1/24 scale kit modelers' world:
-it's japanese. The most important brands of models are japanese too, and their national market is the most important too.
-Tunning has grown, not only in 1:1, but also in 1/24. Drifting too. Which are the main cars concerned by these activities? Japanese ones. So again, RX-7, Supas, Imprezas, Silvias... and Skylines!
-The car is hot!
-If there were nothing on earth, what would you still see all around you, wherever you put your eyes? -The skyline. (Ok, this is stupid, I admit!)
-There are other cars and models forums on the net. Why has this one choosen this blue car to represent itself? >>>

-AF members become quickly AF addicted... Logically, wherever they come from, they also become Skyline addicted. I try to resist myself, but I'm afraid I'm going to fall soon... But please don't help me! It's so good!

Re: Skylines???

There is so much to the Skyline, it has the history, and the performance it lives up to, it's a legendery car..!! On the market there are all the models, street, race, or tuned street. Im not much of a Skyline fan, but im getting more and more addicted, especially with so many variations, like the SAS offerings. It's one of the most customisable cars, and we all like to make it our own Skylines.... we love them..

Re: Skylines???

If you have ever driven a Skyline you will know what it is about them. NISSAN's are cool.
I'm making another R34 now

Re: Skylines???

^ and sometimes you know even without driving one. drive a couple cool SE-R's and you can only imagine the potentness of a GTR.

why do I like it?

-the block has had over 1500HP through it and never blown the stock bottom end. it is quite possibly the strongest bulletproof engine ever built.

-they smoke Mclaren F1's.

-first time you see one, you think.. kinda mustangish, ugly... lines aren't smooth like a ferrari. brute and muscular and unattractive? then it grows and grows and becomes beautiful in a completely different manor. pretty like a skyline.

-they are unique, and reflect Nissans passion and corperate culture. It is the epitome of what Nissan does; introducing cars unlike any other company and putting themselves out there on a chance. Nissan keeps other car companies on there toes.

-the first skyline's were built for a prince. good enough for royalty, good enough for me.

-The Skyline basically had to bow out gracefully from GT racing as every other car manufacturer admitted they could not beat it. period.

-Its a tuners dream (you can double the horsepower of that car and it will be comfortable with its power, it won't feel like its lost its edge)

-I am a Nissan nazi.

well. actually thats not "exactly" correct..

fact is, in 1955 Tachikawa (Tachikawa Aircraft Company) changed it's name to the Prince Motor Company in honor of the Emperor of Japan Crown Prince Hirohita, and from then on the cars were sold as Princes.

Now the connection is, Nissan and Prince merged in 1966. (At the same time Toyota merged with Hino and Daihatsu.) Most of the Prince models were kept in production, but from 1967 on they were sold as Nissans or Datsuns. The Prince division still operates independently inside Nissan and is responsible for the Skyline range, including the awesome GT-R.

Technically, it was produced in honor of a Crown Prince.

sorry for incorrect information.
