First look at the Tucson

The Central Region Parts Distributer Manager was just at my dealership today and was driving the new Hyundai Tucson. There are only 2 of them in the United States, both as test vehicles. They will not start producing them for another 2 months, and will hit showrooms in September. They are being driven so they can work out some bugs that might occur. Very similar to the Sante Fe, but smaller. Has a lot of small features that you normally wouldn't look at, but they are nice. Like, a tailgate glass that opens separate from the tailgate, power outlets in the cargo area in the rear, etc. Also, for front seat passengers, a lot more head and leg room than the Sante Fe. For being a small vehicle, it seems a lot bigger than the Sante Fe on the inside. Should be a nice buy for anybody wanting a small SUV, but can't afford a Sante Fe. Also, JD Power released statement today that Hyundai now surpases Toyota in initial quality. A big step for Hyundai now ranked 7th among all manufacturers in initial quality.

The Tucson will only be offered with the 2.4L and 2.7L. No 3.5L in it. The guys that were here with it said acceleration was pretty good with the 2.7L. I hope the 2.4L isn't as bad as it is in the Sante Fe. I am driving a 4cyl Sante Fe as a demo right now, and it's a dog. Takes forever to get up to speed getting onto the interstate, unless you leave it in 2nd or 3rd.
