Maybe thats the Si? Because mine are round and measured 6 1/2"s Also...all shops that I asked around said that its 6 1/2"s. I can take a picture if you want.

Went with Pioneer 6.5" speakers and there was maybe 1 cm space between the magnet and trunk spring. Everytime I opened the trunk the right speaker magnet grabbed on to the trunk spring.
Thats probably what the shops meant.

6 X 9's will fit with a little modification. I have a 95 EX civic and I installed some 6 x 9's which are def. the way to go if you're not gettin subs!. where the factory holes are, they 6 x 9 magnets will interfer with the trunk springs. simply cut holes farther forward and you will be fine. the only drawback is you may have to make a custom rear deck as you may ruin the cardboard factory one. i did it with 1/4 plywood and sub box carpeting...looks fine.

It was for an '01 LX coupe actually which shouldn't be much if any different than the 4dr.

Ok, I just checked and apparently Honda does things different with the 7th gens, than the 6th gens. ALL 6th gens (hatch, coupe, sedan) came from the factory with "6x9 rear speakers. For 7th gens, ONLY coupes come with "6x9's from the factory. The sedans come with 17mm they say, which is basically a "6¾ size speaker. But like said above, with very minor modification, you can fit "6x9's

Yeah, when a someone talks about 6 x 9's not fitting in a civic, it usually has to do with the magnet hitting the trunk spring. I'm suprised, my civic, the shop didn't explain that to you better. Did they just keep it short and say "it wouldn't fit"? I hate it when a place tries to give you that line instead of explaining thinks, like why, etc.
