Cool Rear Speakers for my 1995 Honda Civic DX

Hey everyone,

I'm a bit a newbie around here and the whole car thing I'd say... but yeah before i went tearing through my car i was wondering if anyone knew what kind of speakers the a 1995 Honda Civic DX Sedan (4-Door) would take and also if it was pre-wire for them as i do not have speakers in the rear deck right now. Also, are there any reccomendations for speakers that would fit in both, front and rear without much cutting/shaving? Since this is is my first project on my car, I'll add more "stupid" questions later...

Thanks,
Mun-G

I have a 95 DX Coupe. I don't know if the owner pre-wired it, but mine had wires for the back. I think you're supposed to use 6 1/2s. I cut some of the metal off and fitted 6x9s.

all the cars come with it prewired from the factory. My EX didn't have rear speakers, the holes weren't even cut out for them, but the wires were there.

Dealer told me the same thing that they were pre-wired incase an upgrade was wanted.

Yup, pre-wired. You'll have to cut out the holes for them though, but 5th genCivic's like your '95 sedan can accomidate "6 1/2's normally. With some additional cutting you can probably get some 6x9's to fit which would sound MUCH better.

Lots of the audio shops I went to said this isnt advisable for 7th gens. They said might ruin the frame or something.

The frame? You mean the actual rear deck sheetmetel? It won't ruin it, just make a different size than stock. Unless anything underneith in the trunk area would obscure it'll placement, those shops are just talking out of their ass. BTW, from the factory, 7th gens come with "6x9's stock anyways. How would it ruin anything?

Yea, Civics are Uni-body frame.

Also, typlically 6 x 9's are used for systems without subs, since they can kick more bass. Comp systems, usually run 6 1/2, since they have a low pass x-over cutting off bass the the 6 1/2's and all the bass comes fromt he subs. Then the high pass sends all the trebel and high to the 6 1/2's. If your getting subs, 6.5's all around sound nice (use a low pass x-over in this case). The subs kick the bass and the 6.5's clean trebel. As I said, thats how most comp systems are built. Without subs though, 6 x 9's will sound nicer. MB Quart has some kick ass 3-way 6 x 9's, can't remember if they are the discus or reference line though.

They said something like that that it might obscure something in the trunk.

I double checked it, mine came with 6 1/2"s all around.

Odd, the actual spec sheets that the parts department at any Honda dealership, will pull up them as being "6x9's

ah, I know what you are talking about. They mean that the magnets on the 6x9's may hit the trunk springs. I was going to put 6x9's in my 4th gen, but the magnet would have hit the trunk springs and not fit anyhow. Went with Pioneer 6.5" speakers and there was maybe 1 cm space between the magnet and trunk spring. Everytime I opened the trunk the right speaker magnet grabbed on to the trunk spring.
