Re: '98 Caravan Tranny problem...
Ok I got the fix for my Electronic/Electrical problems, my mechanic took everything apart and checked it all looked good, so when he put it back together , the van wouldnt start at all! So he took the battery out again, checked all wiring harnesses and connections removed and put them back on again, after that the van started up no problem and the speedo started working again. The problem with shifting was gone, he thinks (like others have said her) that it could have been a corroded connector but is not sure.
We picked the van up on friday and drove it all saturday and friday and it is still working perfect, so we went to the local GM dealer and traded it in for a new car. So I geuss that is my final fix for this van, getting rid of it now, I count myself lucky for having no real major problems such as transmission etc. Heres a list of what was fixed or replaced the life of this van : 2 body control modules, solenoids for power doors, failed tensioner, speed sensors, fixed burned up harness plug behind A/C controls, corroded and broken wire for high beam lights, other little odds and ends i cant think of right now. My mechanic also said he had a feeling these electronic problem are the start and not the end of a long battle. Good luck to u all, and if u dont have it I recommend the shop manaul for the 2000 caravan/T&C. It cost me around $100 canadian but is loaded with everything u need to know about this car. It makes a Haynes manual look like it is for kids, its about 5 or 6 times the size. Ask your dealer where to get them, the delaer didnt sell them here, I had to goto the place where they sold them to the dealers. Thanks again for all the help and advice, ill be in the Pontiac Aztek forum now, yeah yeah i know its ugly but thats why i bought it! To make people mad. |

Re: Re: Re: Re: '98 Caravan Tranny problem...
Hey RexNfx400....good call. It was the solenoid pack. It was also leaking around the solenoid pack gasket. $250 Cdn for the pack, $78 worth of tranny fluid, 3.1 hours labour ($216). Not trivial but a lot better than a re-build! Thanks for the info!
