Scale Motorsports 1/12th super detail kit
I've just managed to get my hands on Tamiya's 1/12th Martini Porsche 934 kit on ebay. I am interested in Scale Motorsports super detail kit. Does anyone know where is the cheapest place to buy this kit from?

They do pop up on eBay every now and then.

I am just about finished with mine. Be aware that a lot ok the parts will not work with a 934. I would call Scale Motorsports and discuss what parts are compatable before you buy it.

I meant the 935 Thanks for the tip. It is a very expensive kit I agree, but your in-progress thread makes the kit seem really worth it!!! Another way to look at it is that the Tamiya kit is now discontinued and the Scale Motorsports kit is a limited edition. I'm not a kit hogger, but if I don't manage to start it, in a few years it could be worth quite a bit on ebay |

Re: Scale Motorsports 1/12th super detail kit
I saw the 935 superkit on a webpage the other week for US$425 or so. Can't recall where, I'll have a look and see if I can find it again. I bought mine off eBay for US$445 in January, the seller's name was something like CalModel and he was really good to deal with.

Well..if ya got the 935, go for it. Just be ready for a LOT of work. If you have the ability to get around things like bad instructions, fit problems and some really tedious assemblies, the SMS kit is worth it.

Hi guys, I take that is ebay.com? It's a bugger as I do not have Paypal.
A bit dissappointed to hear that the instructions are so bad. You'll expect them to be better than Tamiya's (if that is ever possible) considering the price. |

Re: Scale Motorsports 1/12th super detail kit
Remembered where I saw the 935 superkit for the cheap price, it was www.racingminiatures.com. Unfortunately I've just checked their webpage and they are now charging US$475 for it! Either that or I was imagining things...
So Scale Race Cars is the cheapest place so far (not counting eBay). |

Re: Scale Motorsports 1/12th super detail kit
I have a 934 kit and considered buying the superkit, but in the end I think the majority of the cool parts will be hidden when the car is assembled (even if building the 935), except the wheels. For this reason, I had some aluminum wheel rims custom made and I'll scratch build extra detail without the cost of the detail kit.

I suppose at the end of the day, it is just some of the kit parts replicated in metal. Is that a correct assumption, as I've never really seen the detail kit up front.

Unless you own the machine shop...I don't see how you could have wheels custom machined for less than the $525 bucks that SMS charges, and still get the beautiful detail. Seems like another guy here looked into that for a 1/12 scale street rod and was looking at a couple grand. |
