Re: Turbo on 95 vtec prelude

Pretty much the reason they blow motor is cuz they just bolt the turbo on and think they're all good, Some even boost their pressure up when racing, Stupid thing to do if you dont know what ur doing. It is safe the turbo a B18a or b block because they have lower compressionl. You'll often hear of people with an Integra LS who are running 12 psi of boost, this is because of their low compression. Now this doesn't make that car bullet proof though, its head and walls arent any stronger. I feel that if you turbo a H22 verses any B series block, it will be better if they are built up equallly. The H22 has 0.4 more liters so it gets a little better tourque and with a 4 cyl, tourque is hard to come by, not to mention turbos steal a lil torque due to its using exhaust to power the compressor while a supercharger uses the drive belt. So pretty much like dbebesi said, build the internals and your motor will last you as long as expect it. Just dont forget to do certain things like tuning and such just because you want to save money.

Re: Turbo on 95 vtec prelude

Superchargers work using the same principle of compressing incoming air. The only thing different is how it derives its power, so no; a supercharger running the same boost as a turbo is equally detrimental to the engine.

Re: Turbo on 95 vtec prelude

Really, wow thanks a lot guys, so you would still in your opinions go the turbo path with my engine if its built up right? And it does not all have to do with compression ratios?

Re: Turbo on 95 vtec prelude

Yes I would because the turbo uses exhaust gases to power it while the superchager uses the actull engine to compress the air. Over all you can put more power into a turbo by more boost. Also, they are easily upgradeable to get more and more power if you are unsatisfied yet have the deep pockets

Re: Turbo on 95 vtec prelude

The supercharger uses a belt. You can crank the boost on a supercharger as well, and there is no turbo lag.

However, it is true that a turbocharger is much more efficient, as it uses the flow of wastes to generate power. It creates a minimal amount of backpressure; which contrary to popular belief is ALWAYS bad... but it can be resolved by using bigger pipes.

Personally, I think putting a turbocharger or supercharger on a Prelude is a bad idea; for the money that you dump into making it stable, you could buy an older turbo car and upgrade its stock components for much less.

When you make major upgrades like this you really have to think about why you want a fast car; if it's just to race a bunch of punk kids at stoplights, then is it really worth it? And even so, you can take about 95% of the cars on the road today with around 230 horses at the flywheel (a pretty achievable number for a Prelude VTEC).

But I guess it's not my money, so do what you want. Hmm, what a nice little rant.

Re: Turbo on 95 vtec prelude

I know you make a really good point, but the punks who have the turbos and nos in their cars are the ones that can beat my lude no matter what I do to it without putting in a turbo or supercharger, as long as I can make the motor last a couple of years and throw some money in I would be happy. I want the car to be fast not just to race, but to have all that power on demand!

Re: Turbo on 95 vtec prelude

A small shot of Nitrous. Power on demand. Won't screw up anything as long as you don't spray it at every stoplight.

This was a suggestion given to me by Neutrino from the FI forum. It's a good option that I've never considered before.

Ya thats why you gotta beef it, mainly the head. Cuz its making all those moving parts in there move a lot faster and quicker. Your putting more strain on your valves, springs, retainers, cam shaft, stuff like that
