BALLS OUT turbo setup...new tranny?

Hi I am planning a complete build up of my b18a in my 1990 integra to be able to take any amount of abuse I can throw at it and then I am going to slowly put together a full turbo setup with all the proper electronics so that I can run somewhere around 20-25 psi safely (without breaking anything). My question is......with all of this power coming from the motor...will I need to upgrade to a performance tranny? (Does any company offer a performance tranny for b-series motors?)I obviously know that I will need a performance clutch setup, but no one ever talks about performance transmissions. Honda makes great trannys but will it be able to handle that kind of power?

Please answer only if you have some idea of what your talking about.

Re: BALLS OUT turbo setup...new tranny?

Honda manual trannys can support up to 400whp daily driven, or about 700whp for about 10-20 runs on a track vehicle.

How about setting a horsepower goal rather than a boost goal.

No all the info isn't there. 25 psi on an LS motor with some 9:1 pistons, sleeves, rods, stock head and stock intake with a T3/T4 turbo is a whole shitload less power than 25 psi on your LS motor with some 84MM 9:1 pistons, sleeves, rods, ported and polished GSR head, an AIR intake manifold, and running a PT67. Boost is just a measure of restriction placed by your motor on the turbocharger, and is totally meaningless if you don't tell us anything else. Just telling us how much boost you want to run is worthless for estimating how much HP you want to make.

Re: Re: Re: BALLS OUT turbo setup...new tranny?

He's right. Can't tell sh*t from boost numbers alone. Intercooled? what kind? alcohol injection? co2 injection? nos? cam? rpm range? head? intake? exhaust manifold/headers? Ceramic coatings? turbo design?(VATN or standard? oil cooled or water cooled? sealed bearing or externally oiled? A/Rs? turbo efficiency?) Ignition? You could be running 25psi up to a 6k redline or a 9k redline... HUGE difference in power. hell if i revved my TT 351c to 9k with the same boost i'd probably be makin 400hp more than i do now at 5500. There is at least a couple hundred horsepower difference between the best 25psi motor and the worst. As an example, recently a professional engine builder(Dave Storlien) built a N/A 351c and make 650hp at 6500rpm. I'd be estatic if I could build an 351c that made 500hp at 6500rpm with an unlimited budget and access to a machine shop and dyno. He did it for $6000. It helps to be the best... And that is N/A! turbos just add to the complexity and therefore the 'spread'. If you gathered 10 guys, shadetree mechanics all the way to full on race engine builders, and told them to build you a turbo'd engine with a 7000rpm redline and 15psi boost max on a 3 liter engine, there would be quite a difference between the best and the worst. So in summary, tell us an optimistic guess of what HP you think you can get.

Re: BALLS OUT turbo setup...new tranny?

Boosted try to read what I wrote. My quesiton was about TRANSMISSIONS. I dont know why you are talking about all this other shit like GSR heads???? Did I say anything about an ls/vtec...no. I understand we need horsepower ratings here but like i wrote...im just building the internals...im not going into all of the other performance shit just yet. Thats why I asked the question that I did about tranny's. So lets just say im shooting for 220-250 hp (anywhere in there) will the stock tranny hold up to that with 90,000 miles on it??? yes or no

And the amount of time your transmission will last has a direct relationship to HOW MUCH HORSEPOWER YOU ARE MAKING, YOU BOOB.

Think about your question if you're only shooting for 250 horsepower. Stock ITR's making 200, do you really think they would put a tranny in a car so fragile that it won't take 50 more horsepower.

They use the same case, gears are interchangeable. Same idea on overengineering, you dumb twat. Honestly, why do people make retarded questions like this. First you say 20-25 pounds of boost, now you say 200-250 horsepower, and you're wondering if you're going to bust your tranny. THINK ABOUT IT, there are thousands of people with turbo kits running on stock LS motors, making more than 250 horsepower. Use your god damn head.

Moderator, please lock this thread. His question has been answered even though it makes no sense(250hp on 25psi...??? weak.) Its just spiraling down into a bitch fest.
