15 miles is bugger all in terms of time frame for a commercial jet.If that's all the airspace that they monitor around the White House,the defence strategy must be to shoot any suspicious craft out of the sky.

While Bush and his cabinet may have been taken out, the number three man (speaker of the house) would have become president. The government would not have unduly disrupted had the white house been hit. It would have been tragic. Hundreds would have died. An American historical building would have been destroyed and everything that has happened since would still have happened.

I'm sure the airspace they monitor is much farther than that. Probably hundreds of miles. I just put 15 miles, I am not sure of the actual area, no one probably knows exactly what it is.

The whole DC area is monitored with Primary Radar, as well as Secondary. Turning off your transponder won't help.

15 miles is just the NFZ I think.
